Title: Safety Manager

Location: Portland, Oregon

Compensation: $100k–$130k+ DOE + full benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k) match, STD/LTD, Voluntary Life, PTO)


About the Position


HireIQ Solutions is leading the search for a self-motivated Safety Manager to help build and be a key member of a high-functioning construction project team in Portland, OR. This role coordinates and administers site safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and company safety and occupational health standards and procedures. The Safety Manager provides safety resource support for assigned operating units, including training and permitting; leads or participates in incident investigations and emergency response; conducts site inspections (tracking all corrective actions to closure); performs job safety analyses; maintains jobsite-specific documentation; and carries out additional assignments as directed by the Health & Safety leadership. The Safety Manager delivers overall safety and health leadership to ensure all employees return “Home Healthy – Home Safe” each shift.


Minimum Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong tracking and follow-up skills
  • Working knowledge of DOE and/or regulatory requirements related to safety and industrial hygiene in a construction environment
  • Working knowledge of OSHA 1926 (Construction) and OSHA 1910 (General Industry)
  • Ability to apply the hierarchy of controls to eliminate/mitigate hazards while enabling team and project success
  • Experience preparing and communicating safety/IH technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences


Education and Experience (one of the following)


  • Degree (Associate, Bachelor, or Master) in Occupational Safety & Health or related fields (e.g., Industrial Hygiene, Fire Protection, Environmental Protection) and at least 6 months of experience in safety, health, environmental, or emergency response; or
  • Professional certification (OHST or CHST via CCHEST; or ASP/CSP via BCSP) and at least 6 months of experience in safety, health, environmental, or emergency response; or
  • Five (5) years of construction experience with 100% of day-to-day duties in safety, health, or environmental protection


Preferred Training


  • OSHA 500 Trainer Course (Construction)
  • OSHA 501 Trainer Course (General Industry)


Desired/Preferred Skills and Qualifications


  • Professional certification such as ASP, CSP, or CIH
  • Experience in a Category II Nuclear Operating Facility
  • Knowledge and application of Integrated Safety Management, Integrated Work Management, and other DOE IH/safety procedures in construction
  • Experience identifying, applying, and interpreting federal codes, standards, and regulations in safety and IH (e.g., construction safety, chemical safety, beryllium, exposure assessment)
  • Working knowledge and application of IH exposure assessment (qualitative and quantitative), including sampling methods/instrumentation, sample analysis, and selection/implementation of controls
  • Experience implementing a respiratory protection program
  • Experience working in a radiological facility
  • Ability to obtain required badging and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance


This position requires developing close, effective working relationships with frontline workers, field supervision, and department management. The ideal candidate communicates clearly (verbal and written) and demonstrates strong knowledge of risk, liability, and safety management.
