About the Company
HireIQ Solutions is leading the search for a senior electrical/controls engineer at a US manufacturer of engineered-to-order HVAC systems serving data centers, cleanrooms, and healthcare environments. The company designs, fabricates, and tests custom air-handling and cooling equipment with integrated controls—building the majority of each unit in-house for speed, quality, and reliability.
About the Role
As a Strategic Electrical Engineer within a Strategic Development & Testing group, you’ll research, design, program, and validate PLC-/DDC-based control strategies and advanced electrical solutions. You’ll drive standards, roadmaps, and prototype builds across multi-vendor controls platforms; mentor engineers; and translate high-complexity customer concepts into manufacturable, UL/NEC-compliant systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and test PLC/DDC programs and sequences of operation across platforms (e.g., Carel, Automated Logic, Allen-Bradley).
- Create controls one-lines, I/O lists, P&IDs, and standards; lead structured design reviews for NPD/R&D.
- Build and maintain component and controls roadmaps; partner with Procurement to establish approved vendor/component standards and tiering.
- Design, engineer, and program product prototypes; develop and test new components for UL 508A panels.
- Assist with assembly/wiring of prototypes and test apparatus; plan and execute test programs (plans, scripts, fixtures).
- Analyze test data; issue reports with recommendations to improve performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Author technical white papers and internal engineering/construction standards for electrical/controls.
- Support complex pre-sales solutioning with customers; define concepts and engineered solutions.
- Ensure designs comply with UL/NFPA/NEC/ASHRAE/AHRI requirements (e.g., UL 508A, UL 1995, UL 60335).
- Mentor Solutions and Product Engineering teams on technical practices and project execution.
- Maintain accurate documentation (BOMs, drawings, technical reports) and support CAPEX/OPEX proposals for R&D.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or related); Master’s preferred.
- 7+ years in product/electrical/controls engineering (HVAC, UL 508A, or related industry).
- Extensive background in DDC/PLC programming: Ladder Logic, Function Block, Structured Text.
- Proficiency with CAD (e.g., Autodesk/AutoCAD Electrical) and engineering analysis tools.
- Solid understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer as applied to HVAC/control systems.
- Experience with PLM and ERP integration; strong project management, problem solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings/specifications and navigate regulatory compliance and certification processes.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Office setting with regular visits to manufacturing floor and test labs; PPE required in designated areas.
- Exposure to HVAC equipment, moderate noise, and temperature variations.
- Ability to sit/stand for extended periods; manual dexterity for computer/test equipment; visual acuity for drawings/inspections.
- Occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, iterative environment with shifting priorities to support sales and customer opportunities.
- Occasional travel for field work, supplier visits, or testing as needed.
