Commissioning (Cx) Project Manager

Location: West Linn, Oregon | Hybrid flexibility available

Compensation: $110,000–$125,000+ DOE, plus annual bonus and ownership eligibility

About the Role

HireIQ Solutions is leading the search for a Commissioning (Cx) Project Manager on behalf of a well-established engineering consulting firm with deep technical expertise in mechanical, electrical, and building systems design. This is a career-elevating opportunity for a professional ready to lead complex commissioning projects and manage trusted client relationships. The team is recognized across the Pacific Northwest for its integrity, responsiveness, and ability to see projects through to resolution with practical solutions that work — not just paperwork that checks a box. In this role, you’ll act as a technical leader, trusted advisor, and problem-solver. You’ll collaborate with Professional Engineers, contractors, and owners to ensure systems are designed, installed, and performing as intended. Successful Cx leaders here are known for their ability to bring teams together, build trust early, and lead with both empathy and precision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead commissioning projects from design through occupancy, managing scope, schedule, and client relationships.
  • Review design documents, specifications, and submittals to confirm system intent and performance.
  • Coordinate functional testing, issue tracking, and resolution across design, construction, and owner teams.
  • Facilitate project meetings focused on collaboration and clear next steps.
  • Mentor and guide Cx Technicians and Engineers, providing leadership and technical direction.
  • Deliver comprehensive documentation, from pre-functional checklists to final commissioning reports.
  • Represent the firm as a trusted partner in owner and design-team meetings, providing technical insight and leadership throughout the building lifecycle.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 4+ years of experience in Commissioning, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or Building Systems Design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability and desire to obtain one (PE exam fees reimbursed upon passing).
  • CCP certification (preferred) or other recognized Commissioning credentials such as BCxP, CxA, or ACP.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, controls, and building performance.
  • Leadership and communication skills that foster trust and resolve conflict effectively.
  • A “galvanizer” mindset — you bring people together, inspire collaboration, and move projects forward.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Construction Engineering (preferred; relevant experience may substitute).
  • Experience in public sector projects (K-12, higher education, healthcare, or municipal) is a plus.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Commitment to Quality: Every issue is closed with a solution and a clear path forward — not just a report.
  • Client Trust: Known for direct communication and collaborative problem-solving that builds long-term relationships.
  • Career Growth: Defined pathways to advance as a Project Manager, Subject Matter Expert, or Division Leader.
  • Ownership Opportunity: Shareholder path is possible over time based on performance in the firm.
  • Recognition and Rewards: Annual bonuses are paid out each year based on the performance of the firm, plus guaranteed 4% matching to 401(k) accounts regardless of employee contribution.
  • Leadership Access: Work closely with senior leaders and subject-matter experts who prioritize mentorship and career development.
  • Local Impact: An Oregon-based firm with a 50-year history and growing presence in the Portland metro region.

Who Thrives Here

  • Leaders and learners: motivated professionals who ask questions, seek feedback, and build relationships.
  • Veterans and hands-on problem solvers: individuals who value teamwork, process, and accountability.
  • Cx professionals ready to grow: those looking for mentorship, leadership opportunity, and long-term career stability in a collaborative environment.
