The Senior Accountant position reports directly to the Company’s Group Manager – Finance and works closely with the Executive General Manager, operations leadership, and the Company corporate finance team. The position is a critical leadership position within the Company’s finance team and will have senior responsibility for the monthly accounting close, accounts payable, payroll, and monthly management reports. Additionally, this position manages quarterly site forecasts and annual budgets, variance analysis, ERP administration in SAP, and additional projects as and when they are identified. With demonstrated success in the Senior Accountant position, the incumbent would be a potential successor for the Company’s US Finance Manager role or roles within the Company’s wider corporation in the finance, control, or treasury functions.

 

Major Responsibilities:


Financial Accounting & Month‑End Close

Prepare and record all required journal entries, including payroll, prepaids, fixed assets, depreciation, accruals, intercompany transactions, and consolidation entries.

  • Review all balance sheet and income statement accounts for accuracy and reconcile all general ledger accounts to supporting documentation.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records for the Company US while in care and maintenance, ensuring compliance with internal controls and reporting standards.


Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable

Manage accounts payable, including vendor account ageing, invoice processing, and AP subledger integrity.

  • Track and record accounts receivable activity and reconcile AR balances to site bank accounts.


Financial Reporting

Prepare and manage month‑end management reporting, including variance analysis and explanations against forecast.

  • Support management with ad‑hoc reporting requests related to care‑and‑maintenance activities, site costs, and cost‑control initiatives.


Audit Support

Assist in the preparation for the annual external audit, including providing supporting documentation, responding to auditor queries, preparing audit schedules, and ensuring accuracy and completeness of audit‑related information.


Forecasting, Budgeting & Cost Tracking

Prepare quarterly forecasts and the annual budget for the ICO operations, including operating expenditure, sustaining costs, and cash flow requirements.

  • Coordinate with site and corporate teams to gather cost inputs and ensure financial planning reflects current operational status.


Asset Management & Compliance

Maintain the fixed asset register and ensure proper accounting for site assets during care and maintenance.

  • Monitor and support compliance with state and federal reporting, taxes (including property and use taxes), and permitting‑related financial obligations.


Systems & Internal Controls

Administer the FICO modules for the US in the Company’s SAP system.

  • Ensure internal controls related to financial reporting, cash management, and fixed assets are maintained and documented appropriately.


General Support

Support ad‑hoc projects and provide general finance support as assigned.


Job Specific and/or Technical Skills:

  • Previous Work Experience Required: Experience of three years or more as an accountant, preferably in mining, construction, or a heavy manufacturing environment.


Education, Skills, and Knowledge Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a similar field.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP).
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is an advantage but not essential.
  • Ability to research state sales and use tax and property tax regulations and apply these to The Company’s operations.
  • Proficiency in SAP preferred; experience with other ERP systems (e.g., Ellipse, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Hyperion, etc.) acceptable.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of MS Teams, Excel, Word and PowerPoint applications.
  • Candidates should have proficient communication and presentation skills.
  • Candidates should be self-motivated and capable of working independently in both in-person and remote environments.


General Job Requirements:

This is a full-time, remote role with flexible working arrangements that may be completed in Central, Mountain, or Pacific Time Zones. The roster for the position is a standard five-day work week, with a high degree of flexible working arrangements. The Senior Accountant will be expected to work virtually with managers, executives, and peers operating in remote and hybrid positions. The role will work across multiple time zones including European, Australian and South American time zones.


The employee must be able to follow specific instructions while maintaining acceptable established standards of work performance and conduct, showing the necessary and consistent energy, as well as acceptable mental and physical dexterity, for the satisfactory completion of the essential duties as summarized and defined. The employee must exhibit acceptable interpersonal skills and the continuous ability to work in a team-oriented atmosphere.
