Accountant


Position Summary

The Accountant will support the financial and accounting functions of the mining operation, ensuring accurate and timely recording, reconciliation, reporting, and analysis of financial information. This role will work closely with accounting, operations, procurement, supply chain, and other site and corporate functions to maintain the integrity of financial data and support sound business decisions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform day-to-day accounting activities, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close activities.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial information, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company accounting policies.
  • Support preparation of financial statements, management reports, and other financial analyses.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, inventory, and other accounting functions as needed.
  • Support the accounting and reporting of mining operations, including operating costs, capital expenditures, inventory, and equipment.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, identifying significant trends and explaining differences between actual and budgeted results.
  • Work closely with operations and other departments to ensure costs and financial transactions are properly coded, recorded, and supported.
  • Assist with fixed asset accounting, capital project tracking, and depreciation.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations, documentation, and other requested information.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, internal controls, and company policies.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and financial controls.
  • Maintain accurate and organized accounting records and documentation.
  • Provide financial and accounting support to management and other departments as required.
  • Perform other accounting and financial duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • 2–7 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience in mining preferred; heavy industry, manufacturing, energy, construction, or another asset-intensive environment required.
  • CPA preferred but not required.
  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Experience with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Strong Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with an ERP/accounting system such as SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with both accounting and non-accounting personnel.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience supporting a mine site, processing facility, plant, or other industrial operation.
  • Familiarity with cost accounting, operational accounting, capital expenditures, inventory, and fixed assets.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial variance analysis.
  • Exposure to internal controls and audit processes.
  • CPA certification or active progress toward CPA licensure.

Work Environment

This position supports a mining operation and requires the ability to work effectively with both office-based accounting personnel and site operations. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in an industrial environment and collaborating with personnel across multiple functions.
