As a key member of the Operations Team, the General Manager will lead and manage all aspects related to the operations and development of the site, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Provide safety and environmental leadership by always setting an example, inspiring our safety vision, challenging the processes, empowering the workforce, and celebrating our successes.
  • Ensure the Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards of the company are adhered to.
  • Implement mine safety practices that align with the overall company goals and standards and improve HSE performance year-over-year.
  • Lead a risk management approach to achieve zero harm.
  • Maintain the site’s license to operate and grow the operation through managing land acquisition, permitting, and water rights.
  • Maintain and further develop strong relationships with communities, governments, and other external stakeholders.
  • Attract and grow a strong team aligned to deliver the site strategy while maximizing local talent and maintaining a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment.
  • Ensure there is a comprehensive and effective succession management strategy in place for the operation; identify succession role requirements and high-potential talent, and actively develop key talent.
  • Create a transparent reporting system relevant and appropriate for each stakeholder.
  • Formulate and execute the annual operating and capital budgets for the operation, consistent with established financial guidelines and business planning processes.
  • Lead a culture of excellence focused on delivering commitments, including setting operational goals that are aggressive and tied to the long-term goals of the business.
  • Drive year-over-year improvement in cost management and other critical operational performance metrics.
  • Oversee the implementation of processes, policies, systems, and practices within the mine operation that maximize operational efficiencies and competitive advantage. 
  • Collaborate with the local leadership team and corporate team.
  • Develop and maintain positive and effective relationships between all site departments, vendors, and contractors.
  • Support the development, execution, and ongoing optimization of operational and asset management strategies.
  • Ensure best practice methods and continuous improvement systems are developed and maintained for the company and benchmarked against other operations.
  • Act as a change agent and project sponsor for key initiatives; model organizational values, set the cultural tone, and prioritize business goals.
  • Collaborate with other company site locations to share and identify best practices while continually looking for more effective methods, ideas, practices, etc.
  • Identify and execute opportunities to automate functions of the operation to improve safety and cost efficiencies.
  • Negotiate major contract issues relating to contract maintenance, operating materials, etc.
  • Develop and execute short- and long-term strategies that support growth of the mine operation to ensure optimum exploitation of the ore body.


QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:


  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or a related discipline required – Master of Science degree is a plus.
  • 15+ years of experience in Mining Operations with at least 5 years in a Senior Leadership role capacity, leading a multi-functional team.
  • Detailed knowledge of all phases of mining, including the integration of the mining, processing, technical services, and maintenance functions, preferably with most experience in open-pit environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in setting and executing a production, financial, and capital budget and ensuring adherence.
  • Understanding of innovation and implementing industry-leading best practices derived from data analysis.
  • Extensive practical experience in leading Health, Safety & Environmental processes and programs.
  • Experience in systematic coaching and training of employees.
  • Demonstrated skills with capital justification, budget development, expenditure, and controls.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
