The Assistant Controller is responsible for supporting the Controller with operations accounting functions in accordance with established corporate and site accounting policies and practices and in compliance with GAAP/IFRS. This takes place in a staged working environment from construction and project phases into mining operations.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Follow safe work procedures and best practices. All employees are accountable for the safety of themselves as well as that of their coworkers.
- Support the development and implementation of accounting systems.
- Supervise the following administrative and clerical functions:
- Accounts payable and receivable
- Fixed assets and capital
- Checking accuracy and completeness of repetitive accounting documents
- Coding transactions to appropriate accounts
- Review month-end journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Preparation and distribution of interim, monthly, and year-to-date business unit/object costs reports, including variance narratives.
- Assist in the preparation and development of financial and job cost analysis reports, annual/short/long term budgets (including Life of Mine) and forecasting.
- Suggest revisions and support the maintenance of accounting policy guidelines, procedures, internal control documents and general ledger interfacing.
- Manage Cost and Operations Accounting Activities.
- Support the submission of tax data to the Corporate office and state and other taxation entities including 3rd party consultants.
- Work with project managers on submission of AFE’s and the reporting of costs and forecasts of projects.
- Participate in the submission of the monthly report and forecast.
- Lead the financial planning aspects of the annual budgeting process.
Required Education, Work Experience & Training:
- Minimum of five (5) years in a professional accounting position, preferably in the mining industry.
- A working knowledge of budget preparation, payroll, accounts payable, production, and general mine/mill operations accounting procedures.
- Compliant knowledge of GAAP/IFRS standards.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision.
- College degree in accounting or finance.
Preferred Education, Work Experience & Training:
- Working knowledge of mining industry accounting policies, procedures, and practices.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in preparing Excel spreadsheets and Word processing documents.
- Experience with JDEdwards and other enterprise level reporting tools would be beneficial.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of a pre-employment physical, including drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to meet the required physical demands, including exerting up to fifteen (15) pounds of force occasionally and or a negligible amount of force frequently.
