Maintenance Specialist


POSITION PURPOSE

Responsible for identifying and optimizing opportunities to improve maintenance and operational practices with a focus on quality and efficiency at the Mine site. This maintenance professional also plays a key role in leading the standardization of lubrication practices and monitoring short term downtimes by using technical knowledge and innovative approaches. This position works closely with the maintenance, operations, supply chain and assets & engineering teams at the mine as well as with suppliers, contractors and consultants to optimize practices, reduce waste in maintenance and provide short term support to equipment downtime. 

 

Balance of field (40%) and office work (60%). Field work is performed in different areas, equipment and plants at the Mine Site

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

As an employee of the Assets & Engineering Department your key responsibilities are aligned with the Asset Management Framework (AMF) Elements. You will be required to develop a clear understanding of the AMF Standards relevant to your role and ensure they are applied within your area of responsibility.

  • Follow safe work procedures and act safely while working in compliance with all MSHA safety guidelines and Mine policies and procedures
  • Participate in proactive activities to reduce the probability and mitigate consequences of potential safety incidents to make the Mine a safe place to work
  1. Quality Control and Assurance of Maintenance Activities ….……..….……...… (20%)
  • Develop and implement a systematic quality control (QA) and quality assurance (QA) program to review execution of maintenance activities against an expected performance standard
  • Perform random reviews of maintenance activities within the QA/QC program, report deviations and monitor compliance of action items
  1. Optimize Maintenance and Operations Routines ……..…..………….….………… (20%)
  • Develop and implement a program to enhance key maintenance and operational routines by using lean maintenance methodologies (TPM or SMED) to reduce waste and inefficiencies
  • Optimize the execution of preventive maintenance (PM) by assessing inspection routes, sequence of tasks, tooling, task duration, safety requirements, etc
  • Review and optimize duration of key maintenance and operational activities by using time studies
  • Lead implementation and coaching of 5S methodology to improve workplace organization and cleanliness across site
  1. Standardize Maintenance Processes ……....………….……………………….…..… (20%)
  • Facilitate development and field deployment of procedures of key maintenance activities
  • Lead the efforts to standardize work to improve consistency, efficiency, training and onboarding of new employees
  1. Monitor Daily and Short Term Downtime ……………………………..………..…… (10%)
  • Review daily equipment performance reports and validate downtime data
  • Chair the equipment performance results daily review meetings
  • Support execution of complex field equipment troubleshooting
  1. Evaluate and Monitor Performance of Component Trials …………….…..……… (10%)
  • Analyze and monitor performance of new equipment installed at the mine
  • Lead the program to reduce mechanical equipment obsolescence
  • Analyze and monitor performance of equipment trialed
  1. Provide Technical Guidance to Lubrication Team ...………………….…….……… (10%)
  • Act as the subject matter expert on lubrication topics
  • Lead improvement of lubrication practices to standardize lubricants, improve routines (grease frequency and quantity), to make sure equipment is properly lubricated

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

REQUIRED

·  Bachelor’s degree in engineering or diploma in related field

 

PREFERRED

·  Mechanical, electrical, industrial, materials, mining, chemical, metallurgical degree or diploma


YEARS OF RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED

  • 3 years in mechanical, electrical, planning, reliability, operations, mining, processing, metallurgy experience in a mining operational facility

 

PREFERRED

  • 5+ years in mechanical, electrical, planning, reliability experience in a mining operational facility


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES (KSA):

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Understanding of safety protocols and practices in a mining processing plant or open pit mine environment
  • Understanding of reliability centered maintenance (RCM & FMEA) concepts, the development of equipment maintenance strategies and life cycle asset management
  • Experience with the use of defect elimination approaches and techniques such as RCA and 5WHY
  • Experience in maintenance KPI’s and analyzing equipment performance
  • Understanding of Lean Maintenance methodologies to reduce waste and inefficiencies
  • Understanding of equipment lubrication practices in processing plants and mobile equipment
  • Experience with condition monitoring techniques used in a mining operational facility such as vibration analysis, oil analysis, ultrasound, airborne, thermography, health monitoring, etc
  • Experience with mining equipment such as crushers, conveyors, ball mills, centrifugal pumps, flotation cells, filter plants, in processing plants or trucks, loaders, excavators, dozers, graders, etc in mobile equipment
  • Able to speak, comprehend, and write in English
