Financial Analyst
Position Summary
The Financial Analyst serves as the senior financial representative at a producing mining operation, providing financial analysis, reporting, budgeting, and decision support to site leadership. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial records, managing the month-end close process, maintaining cash flow forecasts, and delivering timely financial insights that support operational and strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
· Prepare monthly financial reports, including operating costs, production metrics, budget-to-actual comparisons, and variance analysis.
· Analyze financial and operational performance, providing actionable recommendations to management.
· Monitor key performance indicators and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Accounting & Month-End Close
· Manage month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
· Review accounting transactions for accuracy and proper coding.
· Ensure financial records are complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
Budgeting & Forecasting
· Develop and maintain annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
· Track departmental spending against approved budgets.
· Support capital expenditure planning and reporting.
Cash Flow Management
· Maintain rolling cash flow forecasts and monitor liquidity.
· Track committed expenditures and upcoming obligations.
· Identify and communicate potential cash flow risks proactively.
Operational Partnership
· Serve as a financial resource to site leadership, translating financial information into meaningful operational insights.
· Support planning, contracting, purchasing, and resource allocation decisions.
· Participate in operational meetings and provide financial guidance on business initiatives.
Compliance & Audit Support
· Assist with quarterly and annual financial reporting requirements.
· Support external audits and maintain organized financial documentation.
· Identify and escalate financial compliance, tax, or regulatory concerns.
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
· Progressive experience in financial analysis, accounting, budgeting, and reporting.
· Experience in mining, industrial, manufacturing, or heavy industry environments required.
· Strong knowledge of financial reporting, forecasting, and accounting principles.
· Proficiency with accounting and ERP systems, including QuickBooks or similar platforms.
· Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
