Responsible for supporting day-to-day procurement activities for the mine site, including purchase order creation, vendor communication, delivery follow-up, and assisting with the timely procurement of materials, equipment, and services. This position works closely with internal departments and suppliers to help ensure operational needs are met in a timely and cost-effective manner. The Buyer is expected to manage routine purchasing activities, maintain accurate system data, and support procurement processes in alignment with company policies and site requirements.
Key Areas of Responsibilities & Duties:
The key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
- Create and process purchase orders, ensuring accuracy, proper approvals, and timely delivery of materials and services.
- Follow up with suppliers on order status, shipment schedules, pricing, and delivery timelines.
- Obtain quotes from vendors and assist in evaluating pricing, availability, and delivery options.
- Work closely with internal departments to understand purchasing needs and support timely procurement of required goods and services.
- Assist with sourcing routine materials, parts, consumables, and services for site operations and maintenance.
- Maintain accurate vendor and purchasing information in SAP and ensure data is kept current.
- Monitor open purchase orders and help resolve issues related to backorders, delayed shipments, or incorrect deliveries.
- Communicate with vendors and internal stakeholders to support smooth purchasing transactions and timely issue resolution.
- Support procurement processes and ensure activities are carried out in accordance with company policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
- Assist with basic bid and quotation comparisons and provide support for tendering or contract-related activities as needed.
- Help identify opportunities for process improvement, cost savings, and better service from suppliers.
- Support cross-functional coordination with warehouse, accounts payable, maintenance, and operations teams.
- Perform duties and activities in a manner that conforms to all safety practices and other policies, procedures, and standards established by the company or required by law.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Required Skills:
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Basic to strong understanding of purchasing and procurement processes.
- Knowledge of SAP system preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work well with internal teams and vendor contacts.
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to follow through on purchasing issues.
- Willingness to learn and develop knowledge of site materials, vendors, and supply chain processes.
- Understanding of related supply chain functions such as warehouse, logistics, and accounts payable is a plus.
Required Experience:
- 1–5 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain support roles.
- Experience with purchase order processing, vendor communication, and order follow-up preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, preferred.
- Experience in mining, industrial, manufacturing, or similar operational environments is preferred.
