JOB TITLE:              Mine Operations Supervisor                        

   

Purpose & Scope of The Position: 

The Mine Operations Supervisor helps manage a crew of approximately sixty plus equipment operators and all associated mining-related activities in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. Proactively coordinates activities and resources in conjunction with other departments in order to comply with priorities and overall objectives of the mine plan. This position works a rotating schedule and reports directly to the mine operations senior shift supervisor.


Job Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Follow safe work procedures and best practices.
  • Maintain a clean work environment.
  • Responsible for the quality and quantity of work performed by subordinates.
  • Participate in meetings and discussions
  • Be a role model to others in safe behavior.
  • Be willing and enthusiastic.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Experience: A minimum of three to five (3-5) years of mine operations or construction experience preferably in an open pit mine environment or large earthmoving excavation environment.
  • One to two (1-2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Licenses: Valid driver’s license.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering or other related technical field. Equivalent years of related experience can substitute for the Engineering degree requirement.

  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Proven supervisory skills in a union free work environment.
  • Working knowledge of mobile equipment including operating and maintaining such equipment.
  • Basic working knowledge of JDE or equivalent software.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to learn new software.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Assists in managing and supervising a Mine Operations crew.
  • Support and assist the Senior Supervisors in their work.
  • Support and assist in the training of other crew members and department members.
  • Participate in job planning.
  • Handle disciplinary action within the operations department.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical, including drug and alcohol testing.
  • Ability to meet the required physical demands, exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
