Sr. Human Resources Generalist


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Senior Human Resources Business Partner, you will provide strategic and hands-on HR support to assigned departments, focusing on talent management, employee engagement, organizational effectiveness, and compliance with employment laws and collective agreements. Reporting to the Employee Services Superintendent, you will coach leaders, support collective bargaining activities, and help drive a high-performance, learning-focused culture. You’ll also stay ahead of workforce trends and collaborate with internal partners to align talent strategies with business goals.


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic HR Partnership: Work with department leaders to align people strategies with business goals, using data and Employee Services resources to address workforce needs.
  • Program Design & Delivery: Help develop and implement HR programs such as recruiting, performance management, succession planning, and change initiatives. Ensure consistent application of policies and collective agreements.
  • Leader Coaching & Development: Support and coach leaders on performance, discipline, engagement, and documentation. Build leadership capability in HR, compliance, and team effectiveness.
  • Compliance & Labor Relations: Ensure adherence to policies, safety standards, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Support negotiations, grievance processes, and labor-related matters.
  • Operational HR Support: Provide real-time HR guidance to resolve issues, support planning, improve processes, and meet targets and budgets.
  • Industry Engagement: Participate in peer groups and audits to stay current on HR trends and apply best practices internally.
  • Culture & Values: Model the company's values and foster a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.
  • Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and initiative.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Social Sciences, or Business Management
  • 7+ years of progressive HR experience, including 5+ years as an HRBP, HR Manager, or HR Generalist
  • Strong background in labor relations, including collective bargaining, compliance, and union collaboration
  • Solid knowledge of U.S. employment law (e.g., EEO, immigration, unemployment claims)
  • Proven ability to partner with leadership, unions, and legal counsel to resolve complex issues
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, coaching, and relationship-building skills across all employee levels
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook; experienced with ADP Workforce Now or similar HRIS
  • Understanding of department operations and ability to apply relevant HR practices effectively
  • Strong understanding of employee engagement


Preferred

  • Mining or heavy industry experience
  • Experience developing and delivering training programs
  • Experience mentoring or supervising less experienced HRBPs
  • Experience at least several of the following areas: compensation, benefits, leave management, organizational development, recruiting, creation & implementation of policies and procedures, performance management, workforce planning


Work Environment

  • Role is approximately 25% office-based and 75% field-based, requiring on-site interaction with vendors, contractors, and union leadership
  • May require use of a respirator in certain areas
  • Must be able to sit, stand, or walk over uneven terrain for site visits
