What's the role?

The Project Metallurgist reports to the Metallurgical Superintendent, and the primary role is to implement project work and systems to deliver safety and operational improvement within the Processing department. This role also provides technical advice, information and solutions to improve the fundamentals of the processing plant and provide guidance and support to the plant metallurgists in their activities.

Duties include:

  • Provide metallurgical and processing operations advice.
  • Take ownership of projects and activities and lead efforts to implement change. Do not wait for specific directions, make informed decisions, and move forward.
  • Optimize processing plant comprising of grinding circuit, flotation circuit, gravity circuit (Knelson and Acacia), CIL circuit and elution.
  • Conduct plant investigations and improvement projects to improve recovery, increase throughput and reduce costs as required.
  • Optimize, maintain, and upgrade the plant control systems as required.
  • Seek improvement opportunities with the key reagent and consumable suppliers.
  • Assist the Senior Metallurgist or Metallurgical Superintendent to design and complete metallurgical test work.
  • Keep Metallurgical Superintendent informed and up-to-date on progress of all projects and activities.

 

The specific requirements:

  • Degree majoring in Metallurgical Engineering / Extractive Metallurgy / Chemical Engineering from a recognized tertiary institution or other engineering degree and relevant experience.
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience in the metallurgical processing plant in the gold or base metal industry.
  • Computer literacy – Microsoft Office Suite, including demonstrated competence with Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills. Good report writing skills.
  • Current Driver's License.
  • Able to pass a background check and post offer physical.

 

The Details:

Working a 15 day on,13 day off schedule at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

 

Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi.
