Senior Accountant


Purpose of Position


The Senior Accountant supports the Accounting Manager in executing day-to-day accounting, month-end close, accounts payable, reconciliations, cost reporting and financial documentation for the U.S. portfolio/site accounting function. The role is responsible for accurate transaction processing, timely close support, high-quality account analysis, and practical accounting support to operations, procurement and finance stakeholders, including the consistent application of U.S. GAAP and, where applicable, IFRS to assigned transactions and reporting matters.


Accountability


The Senior Accountant reports to the Accounting Manager and works closely with accounts payable, procurement, site operations, project controls, payroll, finance leadership and external advisors as required. The role provides senior-level accounting execution, account analysis, reconciliations, AP support, cost reporting preparation and accounting standards support, while the Accounting Manager retains overall responsibility for close coordination, review, controls, cost-control oversight and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities


Primary Accounting Support


Cost Control / Operations Support


  • Prepare and post month-end journal entries, recurring entries and supporting schedules for assigned accounts.
  • Prepare bank, credit card, prepaid, accrual, fixed asset, intercompany and other balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Research, analyze and document accounting treatment under U.S. GAAP and, where applicable, IFRS for assigned transactions.
  • Review transactions throughout the month for proper account, cost center, WBS/project and budget-category coding.
  • Support accounts payable by reviewing invoice coding, payment support, vendor documentation and invoice exceptions.
  • Maintain organized support for payments, accruals, reconciliations, audit requests, tax support and management review.
  • Assist with month-end close checklists, variance explanations, reporting schedules and site financial statement support.
  • Partner with procurement to support timely receiving, GRNI review, PO closure and resolution of unmatched or aged items.
  • Assist with payroll/job cost review, including salary and hourly coding, cost allocation and payment-support inquiries.
  • Support fixed asset identification, capitalization support, asset records and personal property tax inventory information.
  • Support application of accounting policies and standards to project, site and cost-control activities, including capitalization versus expense evaluation, cost allocation, accrual completeness and documentation of accounting conclusions.
  • Prepare and analyze cost reports, budget-to-actual schedules, accrual support and other site/project financial information.
  • Identify discrepancies, process gaps and data-quality issues, and recommend practical corrections or improvements.
  • Support ERP discipline, including Microsoft Dynamics or similar systems, financial dimensions, coding structure and documentation standards.


Role Fit Within Accounting Team


This role is designed to complement the Accounting Manager by handling senior-level accounting execution, account analysis, reconciliations, AP support, cost-reporting preparation and initial accounting-standard analysis for assigned transactions. The Accounting Manager remains responsible for managing the close process, reviewing accounting outputs, overseeing day-to-day accounting performance, coordinating cost-control priorities and mentoring the accounting team.


Knowledge / Education


·       Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.

·       Approximately 4+ years of progressive accounting experience; mining, critical minerals, industrial, project-based or capital-intensive experience preferred, as well as public company experience preferred.

·       Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, with ability to research, analyze, apply and document accounting standards and prepare clear, audit-ready support for accounting conclusions.

·       Familiarity with IFRS and ability to identify when cross-border, intercompany, capitalization, impairment, revenue, lease, accrual or other accounting-standard matters require additional analysis or escalation.

·       Experience with Microsoft Dynamics or similar ERP systems preferred; advanced Excel and Microsoft Office proficiency expected.

Skills / Abilities

·       Structured, analytical and detail-oriented, with ability to identify discrepancies and resolve accounting issues.

·       Ability to apply accounting standards to practical business facts, document the rationale for conclusions and communicate accounting implications clearly to accounting, finance and operational stakeholders.

·       Comfort identifying accounting-policy questions, data gaps and areas requiring technical review, including when to involve the Accounting Manager or external accounting advisors.

·       Able to manage multiple priorities, meet close deadlines and work independently in a results-oriented environment.

·       Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with accounting, procurement, operations, payroll, vendors and external advisors.

·       Sound judgment, confidentiality and professionalism when working with financial, payroll, vendor and organizational information.

·       Practical problem-solver with initiative, accountability and a continuous-improvement mindset.
