Controller
Position Summary
The Controller will lead and oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions for the organization’s U.S. operations. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with IFRS and U.S. GAAP, maintaining strong internal controls, managing tax compliance, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, and audit activities, and supporting strategic business initiatives.
The Controller will play a key leadership role in the company’s transition from exploration to development and ultimately to operating status, including supporting ERP implementation initiatives and SEC SOX 404 compliance requirements. This position requires a hands-on finance leader who can build and mentor high-performing teams while partnering closely with executive leadership and operational stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Reporting
· Lead all accounting operations and oversee the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
· Prepare and review accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with IFRS and U.S. GAAP.
· Manage consolidated financial reporting, including entity-level reporting and intercompany transactions.
· Ensure compliance with SEC reporting requirements and regulatory filings.
· Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
· Support strategic financial decision-making through analysis, reporting, and recommendations.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cost Management
· Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
· Provide departmental cost reporting, cash flow forecasting, and management reporting.
· Monitor expenditures and provide financial insights to support operational performance.
Internal Controls & Compliance
· Establish and maintain effective internal control systems and SOX compliance processes.
· Support implementation and ongoing management of SEC SOX 404 requirements.
· Coordinate external and internal audit activities and manage auditor relationships.
· Ensure compliance with all tax reporting and regulatory requirements.
Treasury, Tax & Risk Management
· Manage treasury activities including cash management, banking relationships, debt compliance, and foreign exchange exposure.
· Oversee U.S. and Canadian tax compliance and manage relationships with external tax advisors.
· Manage insurance programs and relationships with insurance brokers.
ERP & Systems Implementation
· Support the evaluation, design, and implementation of ERP systems and financial modules.
· Drive process improvements and accounting transformation initiatives as the organization grows.
Leadership & Team Development
· Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team.
· Establish priorities, manage competing deadlines, and foster a collaborative, results-oriented culture.
· Partner effectively with executive leadership, operations, human resources, and project teams.
· Support recruitment, training, and development of finance personnel.
Qualifications
· CPA designation highly preferred.
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
· Minimum 15 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
· Minimum 5 years of experience with U.S. publicly listed companies.
· SEC reporting and compliance experience required.
· Previous experience building and managing accounting teams.
· Mining industry experience preferred, or experience in another capital-intensive industry.
· ERP implementation experience preferred (Ellipse, SAP, or similar major ERP systems).
· Strong understanding of IFRS, U.S. GAAP, SOX compliance, and internal controls.
