Position Overview

As part of the Research, Development, and Engineering – Power Distribution team, the Senior Electrical Engineer will see products through the entire lifecycle — from prototype to production. You’ll play a key role in designing and developing cutting-edge technology offerings in power distribution, test equipment, backup power, and energy storage systems.

 

This position may be based out of Burnsville, MN; Faribault, MN; Houston, TX; Pointe-Claire, QC; or Charlotte, NC.

 

In This Role, you will:

·     Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical and software engineering.

·     Design, prototype, and commercialize products such as loadbanks, generator docking stations, UL-891 switchboards, UL1558 switchgear, automatic transfer switches, and other power distribution systems.

·     Create and review wiring schematics, layouts, and BOMs.

·     Design wiring systems and specify required components for multi-layer power systems.

·     Define and execute new product integration and testing plans.

·     Lead electrical design efforts throughout development, including component selection, validation, and compliance with EMC and safety standards.

 

Basic Qualifications

·     Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

·     5+ years of experience in AC electrical system product design.

·     Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, EPlan, or similar design software.

·     Experience designing to UL and NEC electrical standards for power distribution systems (switchgear, switchboards, loadbanks, transfer switches, generators, etc.).

·     Proven ability to develop technical documentation supporting manufacturing, testing, certification, and customer needs.

·     Strong collaboration and communication skills across disciplines and stakeholders.

·     Ability to define safe and effective testing procedures for prototypes.

·     Experience specifying and validating power distribution components (circuit breakers, contactors, cable, terminal blocks, etc.) according to application and derating criteria.

 

Additional Qualifications

·     NFPA 70E Certification preferred.

·     Experience with UL891, UL1558, UL508, UL1008, UL9540, or similar standards.

·     Experience with ERP, PLM, and engineering data management systems.

·     Knowledge of energy storage systems for critical infrastructure.

·     Background in switchgear or switchboard design and validation.

·     Familiarity with control circuit design and power systems analysis.

·     Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

·     Willingness to travel up to 20% within North America.
