Quantitative Engineer
Decentralised perpetuals DEX. Sub-20ms latency, 1M+ orders per second, $100M+ daily volume. Built on Ethena Network. Season Zero launched with $900M+ in deposits. Team of ~12 engineers, mostly Australia-based.
We're hiring an end-to-end quant to own strategy design through to production. You'll build and run internal market making on perps.
What you'll do
Strategy
- Design market making strategies for perps: quoting logic, spread calibration, inventory and risk controls
- Build fair value models incorporating microstructure signals, volatility regimes, and adverse selection
- Factor in funding rates, liquidation mechanics, and fee schedules
- Define stress-handling behaviour and safety rails
Research and backtesting
- Build and extend the backtesting framework simulating the live execution loop
- Defensible fill modelling and sensitivity validation
- Performance reporting: P&L, Sharpe, max drawdown, fill rate, inventory exposure, tail risk
Production systems
- Implement event-driven trading components: market data ingestion, signal generation, quoting, order state management
- State management across open orders, positions, and P&L
- Monitoring, alerting, logging, and debugging
- Handle latency between reference venues and the protocol (50-100ms windows)
- Cross-venue rebalancing and hedging policies
- Quantify operational risk
Stack
Python (pandas, numpy) for research and backtesting. Rust for performance-sensitive components.
Required
- Proven trading strategy design, market making preferred
- Solid quant fundamentals: probability, statistics, optimisation, time series
- Engineering fundamentals end-to-end - you ship what you research
- Strong grasp of order books, microstructure, and exchange mechanics
- Can clearly communicate assumptions and failure modes
Strongly preferred
- DeFi trading systems experience
- Perpetuals familiarity: funding rates, margin, liquidation mechanics
- High-throughput, low-latency systems background
- Prior role at a trading firm, exchange, or protocol
Compensation and location
- Salary paid in USDC on-chain. Token and equity upside TBC.
- Fully remote. Must be within AEST +/- 3 hours. Non-negotiable.
- Offsites, conferences, remote-first.
