Backend Engineer – High-Traffic, Real-Time Systems | Hybrid Melbourne

Role Overview

This is a rare opportunity to join a fast-growing, profitable tech startup building in Crypto, Web3 and gaming.

We're looking for a backend full stack engineer of any level to work on a high-traffic consumer-facing product, which processes > $2bn in transactions per month.

This role is ideal for a motivated and ambitious engineer who is looking for more challenge, perhaps in the way of a faster environment, or more scale.

About the Role

You’ll be working on low-latency, high-throughput backend systems handling thousands of concurrent users for interactive crypto gaming products within the browser.

This role involves building backend microservices (Node, Nest & TypeScript), optimising for performance for a real-time product.

This is one of our first Melbourne-based engineering hires joining an existing global engineering team. You’ll be working alongside a young and dynamic team.

Essential Skills

• Strong experience with backend development using TypeScript & Node.js, and API frameworks (we use Nestjs)
• Understanding of scalable architectures, microservices, and event-driven systems.
• Experience working with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and caching strategies.
• Knowledge of performance tuning, distributed systems, and building for high availability.
• Familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.

Desirable Skills

• Experience working in fintech, gaming, or other real-time, high-transaction environments.
• Exposure to front-end technologies (React, TypeScript) and full-stack development.
• Strong understanding of security principles for handling sensitive financial data.
