A profitable, fast-growing iGaming startup processing over $2bn in transactions a month. They're looking for a Senior or Staff TypeScript engineer to own back-end systems on a real-time, high-throughput platform. This isn't greenfield: this is high-stakes production code where your decisions matter from day one.

The team is small, the codebase is complex, and the bar is high. If you've been the person who actually understands the system under load, this is a natural next step.

What you'll do

• Build and own back-end microservices in Node/NestJS handling thousands of concurrent users
• Lead performance optimisation on critical transaction paths and real-time data flows
• Design for scale: distributed systems, event-driven architecture, high availability
• Own a technical domain end to end, including quality and architecture decisions
• Mentor mid-level engineers and set the standard for back-end engineering practice

 

About you

• Senior or Staff-level TypeScript/Node.js engineer, with a strong back-end focus
• Experience with high-transaction, real-time systems: fintech, gaming, trading, or similar
• Deep understanding of scalable architectures, microservices, and event-driven systems
• Production PostgreSQL experience: schema design, query optimisation, performance at scale
• Comfortable owning hard problems without a playbook; you set direction, not follow it

 

Nice to have

• Full-stack exposure (React/TypeScript front end)
• Security principles for financial or sensitive data handling
• iGaming, betting, or crypto/Web3 experience

 

Stack

TypeScript, Node.js, NestJS, PostgreSQL, AWS, CI/CD. React on the front end.

Comp

AUD $160k-$200k base + bonus for Senior; higher for Staff/Principal. Negotiable on experience.

Melbourne-based. Hybrid, mix of in-office and remote. Australian working rights required.
