AI Software Engineer
Product engineering role inside one of Australia's most well-known VC firms. The team is three engineers and an intern. You'd be joining as the AI specialist.
Investment teams use these tools in their daily workflows. This is production software, not prototypes or internal demos.
What you'll be doing
- Build and iterate on internal products used in day-to-day investment workflows
- Take AI prototypes and turn them into production-ready capabilities
- Design and implement applied AI, LLM and ML workflows with a focus on reliability and accuracy
- Integrate data sources, third-party tools and internal systems
- Do exploratory, data-driven work to test ideas and surface insights
- Help shape the technical roadmap for investment tooling
- Work in short iterative cycles with direct feedback from investment teams
The first 3-6 months focus on their listed equities portfolio. After that, the scope broadens into venture work. Co-founder visibility from day one.
The tech
TypeScript, Python, Node.js, React, Postgres, SQL, AWS. Applied AI and LLM workflows throughout.
Who we're looking for
3-6+ years shipping code in fast-moving startup environments. Years matter less than whether you own work end-to-end, from problem discovery through to launch and iteration.
- Strong fundamentals across the stack
- Already using AI-assisted coding and automation day-to-day
- Comfortable with ambiguity. You define the problem, not just execute against tickets.
- Outcome ownership, not task ownership
- Comfortable with data wrangling and database work
- Can work effectively with non-engineering stakeholders like investment teams and analysts
Backgrounds that tend to fit
Engineers from AI-native companies. Founder types who've shipped products. People with backgrounds at Atlassian, Canva, Google or Palantir.
Probably not a fit if
You need clearly defined tickets to thrive. You prefer long planning cycles. You work best in large teams with a lot of process.
The setup
- Melbourne or Sydney (Melbourne preferred)
- Flexible and remote-friendly
- 18 weeks paid parental leave for primary and secondary carers
- Wellness allowance
- Learning allowance
- 4 weeks annual leave
AI is a priority from the top, not just a team initiative. Small team. Direct co-founder access. Lots of scope to shape the firm's technical capabilities.
