QA Engineer - High-Growth Gaming Startup in Melbourne!

Location: Melbourne, Australia (Hybrid: 2/3 days in-office)

Salary: Competitive, on experience + Superannuation

About the Role

Join a high-growth, profitable startup as a QA Engineer, where you'll help shape and execute the quality engineering and testing approach for a complex, high-traffic web application.

This is a unique opportunity for someone with high initiative who thrives in a fast-paced, fun startup environment, combining deep manual testing with smart automation.

Apply if you're a high achiever with 3-7 years of experience actively pursuing growth and genuine fulfillment - someone ready to autonomously develop your QA career in a challenging role where your contributions directly impact a dynamic, high-performing team.

The product, an iGaming platform, has seen significant growth, now trading over $1bn USD per month on its web application. You'll work hands-on across workflows such as wallets and payments, collaborating with talented engineers, designers, and product experts in a diverse and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hands-on collaboration with engineering, product, and other QAs to design and execute a robust testing strategy for a web-based gaming platform.
  • Lead thorough manual testing of new and existing features (with a focus on wallets, payments, and wagering flows) to validate functionality before automation.
  • Develop and maintain Playwright-based automated tests using a modular, reusable "building blocks" approach that supports rapid iteration.
  • Perform regression testing across releases for a high-traffic, consumer-facing web application, ensuring stability of critical money-handling journeys.
  • Work closely with developers to identify, reproduce, and debug issues, challenging acceptance criteria where appropriate and exploring edge cases.
  • Create and follow clear test processes, ensuring strong test coverage, accurate documentation, and consistent quality practices across the team.

Essential Skills

  • 3-7 years of QA or quality engineering experience - this is a mid or senior role ideal for high achievers on a steep growth trajectory.
  • Strong manual testing experience, with a methodical, process-driven approach and sharp attention to detail.
  • Hands-on experience designing and building automated tests with Playwright for web applications.
  • Solid understanding of testing practices for payments, wallets, or other business‑critical flows, with a cautious, risk-aware mindset around money-related features.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced startup environment, taking ownership and operating with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Proven ability to think beyond acceptance criteria, exploring edge cases and challenging assumptions to ensure robust coverage.
  • Exceptional communicator who can engage confidently at all levels - from engineers and product teams to C-level executives. This is a rare and highly valued skillset in QA roles.

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency in writing and maintaining test scripts for web applications with payments, wallets, or other business‑critical flows.
  • Experience with performance, regression, and exploratory testing in high-volume environments.
  • Familiarity with online gaming, wagering, or sports betting platforms, or modern crypto/web3 technology, is a strong plus.
  • Background in business-critical environments (finance, healthcare, fintech, or similar sectors) where testing quality directly impacts user outcomes.

Why Join Us?

  • Rare opportunity to join a high-growth gaming startup at a pivotal stage, in a fast-paced, fun, and dynamic environment with exceptional, talented people. Work directly with the QA Lead and core engineering team.
  • Experience high fulfillment and real ownership—you'll have genuine influence over quality strategy, the opportunity to engage with C-level executives (rare for QA!), and meaningful mentorship from experienced leaders.
  • Ideal for ambitious early-career professionals: This role offers accelerated growth, autonomy, and challenge paired with competitive salary and superannuation benefits—perfect for high achievers in their first 5 years seeking to make a real impact.
