ABOUT THE ROLE

The Financial Analyst will play an important role in supporting financial visibility, project performance analysis, and decision-making across a group of construction-related businesses. Working closely with the Controller, CFO, and operational leaders, this individual will help deliver timely financial analysis, support budgeting and forecasting, and provide insight into project and business performance.

This role is well suited to someone who enjoys working in a hands-on, operationally focused environment and who understands the pace and complexity of the construction industry. The successful candidate will bring strong analytical capability, sound financial acumen, and a practical understanding of how financial data connects to project execution, costing, and profitability.

The position offers the opportunity to work across multiple operating entities and to contribute to a growing finance function that values accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare regular financial analysis, reports, and dashboards to support leadership decision-making across the business.
  • Analyze project financial performance, including job costing, margin trends, cost variances, and cost-to-complete reporting.
  • Support the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecasting activities across multiple entities.
  • Partner with operations leaders to review project performance, identify risks, and provide insight into factors affecting profitability.
  • Monitor key financial and operational metrics and help develop reporting that improves visibility into business performance.
  • Assist with month-end and quarter-end analysis, including variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior periods.
  • Support the Controller and CFO with cash flow analysis, planning, and ad hoc financial modelling.
  • Review and analyze equipment, labour, subcontractor, and materials costs to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist with maintaining and improving job costing, reporting processes, and financial controls.
  • Support intercompany analysis and reporting across the group of businesses.
  • Contribute to special projects, process improvements, and other finance initiatives as required.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of experience in a Financial Analyst, Project Accountant, or similar finance role.
  • Direct construction or civil construction industry experience is required.
  • CPA designation, or progress toward designation, would be considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of job costing, project-based accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Experience working in a multi-entity or operationally complex environment would be considered an asset.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong comfort working with financial systems and reporting tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with the ability to interpret data and communicate insights clearly.
  • Ability to work effectively with both finance and operations teams in a collaborative and practical manner.
  • Well organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and follow-through.

WHY THIS OPPORTUNITY

This is a strong opportunity for a Financial Analyst who wants to work closely with both finance leadership and operations in a well-established construction business. The role offers meaningful exposure to project and business performance, the ability to influence decision-making, and the opportunity to contribute to a finance team supporting multiple operating entities.

The successful candidate will join an established organization with deep roots in the market, a strong reputation, and a leadership team that values practical insight, teamwork, and long-term relationships. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Victoria, BC.
