We deliver aerial LiDAR, photogrammetry, ROV inspections, and bathymetric mapping for government and private-sector clients. As we take on more missions across Nunavut and the broader Arctic, we are building our next bench of mission-ready surveyors.
Opportunity Overview
The Hydrographic Survey & UAV Mission Trainee participates in a sponsored training-to-employment program leading to certification under the IIC Academy S-5B Hydrographic Surveyor Program (FIG/IHO/ICA IBSC recognized, Category B). Following certification, the incumbent supports aerial and marine survey missions, including UAV-based LiDAR, photogrammetry, bathymetric mapping, and ROV inspections across Arctic environments.
This is a paid training-to-deployment pathway designed to build technical skills and experience, culminating in an internationally recognized hydrographic surveying credential and opportunities to contribute to specialized survey work in the Arctic.
Responsibilities
During Training Phase
- Complete all components of the S-5B Hydrographic Surveyor Program, through both remote learning and on site training (theoretical, practical, and assessments)
- Develop proficiency in survey planning, geospatial software, and data analysis
- Participate in hands-on training and analysis in multibeam sonar, side scan sonar, UAV, ROV, and LiDAR systems
Post-Training (Operational Role)
- Conduct aerial LiDAR and photogrammetry surveys
- Support bathymetric mapping and hydrographic and marine site surveys
- Operate and assist with ROV inspections of underwater infrastructure
- Perform GPS-guided surveying and parcel mapping
- Contribute to 3D modeling and digital twin development
- Process and analyze geospatial and survey data in office settings
- Participate in field deployments across Arctic locations
- Maintain and operate specialized survey equipment (UAVs, ROVs, sonar systems)
- Perform other related duties as assigned in support of project and operational requirements.
- Demonstrate cultural humility by engaging respectfully, actively listening, and adapting behaviours to support meaningful and positive relationships with Inuit communities.
- Support community engagement activities by interacting professionally and respectfully with community members, partners, and local organizations.
Who We’re Looking For
Seeking individuals who are:
- Interested in surveying, mapping, drones, or marine work
- Comfortable with technology and learning new tools
- Willing to work in both office and outdoor field environments
- Able to travel and work across Arctic locations
- Motivated, reliable, and eager to build a technical career
Assets include a valid driver’s license, marine certifications, or drone experience, however these are not required.
Priority will be given to Inuit applicants and Nunavut beneficiaries as part of our commitment to building local capacity.
