ABOUT THE ROLE

Jordan River Logging is seeking a senior finance leader to own the end-to-end finance function across a group of companies. This role goes beyond monthly reporting—driving financial strategy, strengthening controls, improving cash flow and working capital discipline, and building scalable processes that support operational decision-making.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Leadership & Strategy

  • Act as the senior financial advisor to the Owner/Director on performance, risks, and priorities
  • Build and maintain annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and scenario models tied to operational drivers
  • Deliver actionable insights on margins, job profitability, cost drivers, and productivity

Reporting, Controls & Compliance

  • Oversee accurate and timely monthly financial statements for all companies in the group
  • Lead month-end close, balance sheet integrity, and financial governance
  • Strengthen internal controls, policies, and process consistency across the group
  • Ensure all statutory filings and compliance deadlines are met (CRA, payroll, GST/PST, etc.)

Cash Flow, Working Capital & Risk

  • Own cash flow planning and working capital performance (AR, AP, inventory)
  • Partner with operations to improve billing cadence, collections, and inventory discipline
  • Provide information for insurance renewals; manage broker relationship and risk documentation

Operational Finance & Costing

  • Lead and improve job costing frameworks, costing accuracy, and cost allocation methods
  • Provide variance analysis and operational dashboards that support field decisions
  • Maintain and optimize the general ledger and financial structure (Adagio)

People Leadership & Process Optimization

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing finance/admin team (4 direct reports)
  • Modernize workflows, documentation, and cross-training to reduce single points of failure
  • Identify efficiency opportunities (systems, automation, controls, reporting)

External Partner Management

  • Coordinate year-end, tax support, and external advisors (accounting, banking, insurance)
  • Maintain clean working papers and documentation for audit/review readiness (as applicable)


SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • CPA required (or very strong equivalent experience at a multi-entity senior level)
  • 3-5+ years progressive finance/accounting experience, ideally in industrial/asset-heavy environments (logging, manufacturing, construction, transportation, etc.)
  • Strong operational finance capability: costing, margin analysis, and field-facing decision support
  • Proven track record leading teams and implementing tighter controls/process improvements
  • Systems comfort: Adagio experience an asset (or ability to ramp quickly)
