A leading structural steel fabrication and installation firm located in Northern Ontario, operating from a modern facility and serving a diverse range of clients in commercial, government, and industrial sectors is looking to hire a project scheduler. Our client specializes in custom metalwork, structural steel erection, and heavy equipment repairs, delivering projects of varying scale and complexity across the region.
The Project Scheduler reports to the General Manager and is responsible for overseeing fabrication and installation schedules. This role directs the project management team to coordinate operational capacity with customer requirements.
YOUR DAY TO DAY
- Create and optimise project schedules for all project resources including both fabrication and on-site installation.
- Recommend and implement project management software and tools for the company.
- Ensure production schedules support timely completion and shipment of customer orders.
- Make decisions about allocating equipment, personnel, and materials to achieve the best possible production outcomes.
- Review with project managers production status, potential delays, and delivery timelines.
- Collaborate with sales teams to provide High level scheduling information for proposals and contracts.
- Deliver efficient schedules, improved resource utilization, and reduce downtime.
- Assess current and future production capacity to ensure resources align with organizational goals.
- Support operational improvements and collaborate with the General Manager, project managers, shop foremen, and supervisors.
- Ensure buy-in from project managers and other staff for new scheduling and resource management practices.
- Implement and enforce structured scheduling and resource management processes.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in planning/scheduling within the construction/fabrication industry.
- Strong grasp of project management principles, including schedule creation, resource planning, and delivery optimization; formal certification such as a PMP, PMI-SP or equivalent hands-on experience.
- Proven expertise in construction and fabrication project scheduling, with a track record of managing complex, multi-phase projects and optimizing labor, materials, and costs.
- Skilled in collaborating with project managers, supervisors, and union labor, including on-site scheduling and conflict resolution.
- Proficient in project management tools and systems, with the ability to recommend, implement, and train others on scheduling best practices.
- Solid financial acumen, understanding how scheduling impacts margins, labor costs, and overall project profitability.
