We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly reliable Paralegal who will play a critical role in managing
legal documentation and processes related to asset recovery and insolvency. This position demands
precision, discretion, and a proactive mindset to ensure Parklawn’s custodial rights are protected, and legal
procedures are executed flawlessly across the country.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and send registered letters and legal notices.
- Notarize documents and photograph stamped mail for recordkeeping.
- Maintain meticulous documentation to withstand scrutiny from trustees, lenders, collection agency- law firms and courts.
- Draft legal responses and prepare supporting documentation.
- Prepare and file court materials including Books of Documents, Books of Authorities, and motion materials.
- Attend discoveries, hearings, and client meetings as needed.
- Oversee e-Discovery processes including workspace management, document production, coding, and review.
- Track deadlines and proactively identify next steps to move matters forward.
- Contribute to process improvements and integrate updates to Court Rules and legislation into workflows.
- Liaise with clients, lenders, trustees, courts, and internal teams with professionalism and discretion.
- Coordinate meetings, trials, and related legal proceedings.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Paralegal degree/diploma, law clerk diploma, or equivalent legal qualification.
- Minimum 8 years of direct experience in tax disputes/litigation.
- Background in insurance, real estate law, or legal clerk roles is advantageous.
- Strong familiarity with Tax Court of Canada Rules and Federal Courts Rules.
- Experience with motions, discoveries, trials, and Rule 82 document productions.
- Own legal corporation for handling lien registrations and removals, preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of e-Discovery platforms (e.g., Relativity, Ringtail, Nuix).
- Familiarity with CRA processes and procedures is advantageous.
- Exceptional attention to detail and binary thinking.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to manage repetitive legal processes without error.
- Self-motivated, autonomous, and proactive in driving work forward.
