ACCOUNTING SUPERVISOR


Hosper Mortgage is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager to own the accounting function and lead a high-performing finance team within a regulated mortgage investment environment. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role combines technical accounting expertise, people leadership, and process improvement, with responsibility for ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and scalable financial operations as the business grows.


Hosper Mortgage is seeking a senior finance leader to own the day-to-day accounting function, ensure the integrity of financial reporting, and act as a key partner to the Director of Finance. This role combines hands-on leadership with strategic oversight, supporting a growing, regulated investment and lending platform.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee daily accounting operations such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and bank reconciliations.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a finance team, setting standards for quality, accountability, and continuous improvement, and supporting succession and skill development.
  • Lead the month-end close process for multiple entities, ensuring deadlines are met and financial statements are accurate.
  • Review and approve reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules.
  • Serve as a technical accounting resource for IFRS and fund accounting matters, identifying and resolving complex issues.
  • Provide financial insight and analysis to support lending, investment, and growth decisions.
  • Partner with the Director of Finance on audit readiness, regulatory examinations, and stakeholder reporting.
  • Assess accounting implications of new products, entities, or regulatory changes.
  • Prepare and submit monthly and annual regulatory reports in compliance with industry standards.
  • Maintain the ability to step in during peak periods, while primarily operating at a review, oversight, and improvement level.
  • Maintain high attention to detail and follow up on discrepancies, resolving errors independently.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS and fund accounting principles.
  • Proactively lead process improvement initiatives, including automation, system enhancements, and scalable controls to support growth.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Finance and other departments to support business objectives and provide financial insights.
  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Utilise accounting software such as QuickBooks and Mortgage Automator to manage financial data efficiently.
  • Support the professional development of team members through regular feedback and training.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives, including automation and development of standard operating procedures.


SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA or ACCA designation preferred.
  • Demonstrated depth of experience in investment, lending, fund accounting, or similarly regulated financial environments, with a strong track record of leading month-end close and developing teams.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS and fund accounting principles.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Mortgage Automator, or similar).
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills, and ability to prioritise in a fast-paced setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Salary Range: 95K-110K
