As our organization continues to grow in size, complexity, and impact, we are seeking a Financial Controller to lead the finance function across the group of companies and play a key role in strengthening financial systems, processes, and team capability.
ABOUT THE CONTROLLER
The Financial Controller is a senior finance leader responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the finance department, oversight of financial operations across multiple legal entities, and ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting. This role works closely with executive leadership, operational leaders, and external advisors, and is instrumental in supporting GDC’s continued growth.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and experienced in scaling finance functions within expanding organizations. They bring strong technical accounting knowledge, paired with a people-first leadership style and a commitment to teamwork.
KEY RESPONSBILITIES
Leadership & Team Development
• Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing culture
• Establish clear roles, workflows, and priorities within the finance department
• Promote strong cross-functional relationships with operations, HR, and senior leadership
• Support professional development and continuous improvement within the team
Financial Operations & Reporting
• Oversee accounting and financial operations across multiple companies within the GDC group
• Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements
• Manage consolidations, intercompany transactions, and reconciliations
• Maintain strong internal controls and financial policies appropriate for a growing organization
• Ensure annual audit completion within required timeline
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax requirements, and regulatory obligations
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
• Lead annual budgeting and multi-year financial forecasting processes
• Provide clear financial analysis, variance explanations, and insights to support decision-making
• Support operational leaders with financial information to improve performance and profitability
• Assist in evaluating new business opportunities, contracts, and growth initiatives
Systems, Processes & Scale
• Strengthen and standardize finance processes across the group of companies
• Improve financial systems, reporting tools, and documentation as the organization grows
• Support audit preparation and coordination with external auditors
• Identify opportunities to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of the finance function
Governance & Stakeholder Support
• Prepare financial materials for senior leadership and Boards, as required
• Support transparency and accountability aligned with Indigenous governance principles
• Work collaboratively with external accountants, auditors, and advisors
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Required
• CPA designation (CPA, CA, CMA, or CGA)
• 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including leadership responsibility
• Proven experience working in multi-entity or group-of-companies environments
• Strong technical accounting knowledge and financial reporting expertise
• Demonstrated success supporting growing or expanding organizations
• Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage complexity
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
Preferred / Assets
• Experience in Indigenous-owned organizations, economic development corporations, or values-based enterprises
• Experience in service-based or project-driven businesses
• Familiarity with accounting systems and HR/payroll integrations
• Experience preparing board-level financial reporting
