Superintendent — Healthcare & Life Science

About the Role
Our client is a mission driven technical builder with a strong company culture and backlog serving the Raleigh-Durham market and is seeking an experienced Superintendent to lead field operations on healthcare and life science construction projects. This role owns day-to-day site leadership — safety, schedule, quality, and subcontractor coordination — on projects built within active, highly regulated, and often occupied environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all on-site field operations for healthcare and/or life science construction projects, from mobilization through closeout.
- Direct and coordinate subcontractors and trade partners to ensure work is completed to plan, spec, and regulatory/compliance standards specific to healthcare or life science environments (e.g., ICRA, infection control, cleanroom, or similar protocols).
- Develop and manage the project schedule, sequencing trades to protect milestones and minimize disruption to active/occupied facilities.
- Conduct regular site walkthroughs and quality-control inspections to ensure work meets plans, specifications, and code requirements.
- Enforce jobsite safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized, and compliant site at all times.
- Coordinate closely with project managers, owners, architects, engineers, and inspectors to resolve field issues and maintain project momentum.
- Manage material and equipment logistics, deliveries, and site access in coordination with facility operations.
- Lead punch list management, commissioning support, and closeout documentation.
- Facilitate site-level OAC (owner/architect/contractor) meetings and provide clear, accurate progress reporting.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of total construction field experience, with at least one project served as the lead Superintendent on a healthcare or life science project.
- Strong working knowledge of the unique requirements of building in active/occupied healthcare or life science environments (infection control, interim life safety measures, cleanroom protocols, or similar).
- Proven ability to manage subcontractors, schedule, and quality across a demanding, compliance-driven build.
- Strong communication skills and comfort interfacing directly with owners, architects, and inspectors.
- Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards for healthcare/life science construction.
- Proficiency with scheduling and construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, or similar).
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for site travel across the Raleigh-Durham area.
