Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Superintendent to support on-site execution for charter school construction projects. This role will assist the Lead Superintendent with subcontractor coordination, permit compliance, risk mitigation, and conflict resolution, while helping keep projects on schedule and up to our client's quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Subcontractor Management
- Supervising and coordinating subcontractor activities, ensuring work is completed on schedule and to specification.
- Weekly subcontractor coordination meetings, helping foster communication and trade alignment.
- Help review and enforce scopes of work and monitor subcontractor performance expectations.
- Sequencing trades and flagging critical path items.
Schedule Look-Aheads & Project Planning
- Help develop and maintain 3-week and 6-week look-ahead schedules, integrated with the master project timeline.
- Participate in weekly meetings reviewing look-aheads with subcontractors to track progress and flag upcoming needs.
- Help anticipate procurement lead times and potential bottlenecks, communicating them proactively to the project team.
Permit Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
- Support permitting processes and help coordinate timely inspections across jurisdictions.
- Assist in coordinating with local authorities and building departments to resolve compliance issues.
- Help maintain documentation related to permitting, inspections, and code compliance.
Risk Mitigation & Site Safety
- Help identify project risks — safety, financial, logistical — and support mitigation strategies.
- Participate in and help lead weekly safety meetings; uphold OSHA regulations and site-specific safety requirements.
- Assist in investigating incidents, maintaining daily safety logs, and supporting continuous improvement in jobsite safety culture.
Conflict Resolution
- Support real-time resolution of trade conflicts, design discrepancies, or site constraints with a collaborative, solutions-first approach.
- Serve as an on-site point of contact for field-level issue resolution between subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholders.
- Elevate complex conflicts to the Superintendent or project management with context and recommended solutions.
Quality & Documentation
- Assist with quality inspections to ensure compliance with project specifications and finish standards.
- Maintain accurate daily logs, subcontractor check-ins, inspection reports, and progress photos.
- Help ensure all work is delivered to the high standards our client's customers expect.
Qualifications
- 1+ years of experience in commercial construction field operations (school construction experience a plus).
- Ability to work effectively with diverse subcontractor teams and support weekly planning and coordination.
- Familiarity with permitting and inspection requirements across NC, SC, GA, FL, and/or TN a plus.
- Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and construction schedules.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective coordination and documentation.
- Familiarity with scheduling software (Microsoft Project, Primavera, or equivalent) and construction platforms (e.g., Procore) preferred.
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred; must be safety-focused and organized.
- Desire to grow into a lead Superintendent role.
