Electrical Estimator – Commercial & Industrial

Raleigh, NC

About the Company

Our client is a well-established, self-performing electrical contractor serving North Carolina since 2008. With a team of 50+ employees, its own in-house electricians, and revenue north of $45M last year, the company has grown steadily by delivering quality work on commercial, industrial, healthcare, higher education, and state and municipal projects, along with a growing solar division. The team is owner-led and hands-on, and focused on better-quality projects rather than chasing volume. They do not build residential or multifamily work.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to build accurate, competitive bids for commercial and industrial electrical projects across the Greensboro–Raleigh–Greenville corridor. You will work closely with ownership, project managers, and field leadership to win the right work at the right margin, and hand off well-organized projects to the team that will build them.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and prepare complete estimates for commercial and industrial electrical projects from plans and specifications.
  • Solicit, review, and level supplier and subcontractor quotes, including gear, fixtures, low voltage, and specialty scopes.
  • Calculate labor, material, equipment, and general conditions costs and apply appropriate overhead and margin.
  • Review drawings and specifications to identify scope gaps, addenda impacts, conflicts, and value engineering opportunities.
  • Prepare clear proposals with accurate scope, inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications for general contractors and owners.
  • Track bid activity, follow up with general contractors, and support negotiations through award.
  • Maintain pricing databases and labor productivity data, using actual job cost feedback to improve future estimates.
  • Hand off awarded projects to project managers with budgets, scope breakdowns, and buyout support.
  • Support budgeting and preconstruction input, including conceptual pricing and design-phase feedback when needed.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of electrical estimating experience on commercial and/or industrial projects, with experience at an electrical contractor strongly preferred.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical plans and specifications, with working knowledge of NEC and commercial electrical systems.
  • Proficiency with takeoff and estimating software, such as Bluebeam, McCormick, or similar, plus strong Excel skills.
  • Experience with Procore or similar construction management tools is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines.
  • Clear communication skills and comfort working with general contractors, suppliers, and field teams.
  • Healthcare, higher education, or other regulated environment experience is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience.

What We Offer

  • Base salary of $90K-$135K+, depending on experience, plus bonus
  • PTO, retirement plan, and full benefits package
  • Stable, growing contractor with a diverse project mix across commercial, industrial, healthcare, and higher education
  • Hands-on, owner-led culture with real access to leadership and room to grow
