About the Role

Our client, a commercial general contractor based in Sanford, NC, is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join its team. This is an entry-to-mid-level position, well suited to someone with a background in construction, engineering, or mathematics who is ready to grow into a full Project Manager role. The Assistant Project Manager works side by side with the Project Manager and Superintendent from preconstruction through closeout, supporting budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and owner and architect communication. Excellent written and oral communication, critical thinking skills, a professional appearance, and self-motivation are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Project Manager with day-to-day operational tasks from project startup through closeout
  • Prepare owner and architect communications and construction progress reports
  • Create and maintain construction schedules using MS Project
  • Manage and track daily work progress in conjunction with the project superintendent
  • Prepare cost studies and track project costs, including change orders and budget-to-actual reporting
  • Identify and resolve design and cost discrepancies, including RFIs and plan and spec coordination
  • Review and approve subcontractor submittals and track the submittal log
  • Perform estimating and detailed material take-offs using an Excel-based estimating program
  • Obtain subcontractor pricing, level bids, and prepare subcontract agreements
  • Process subcontractor pay applications and assist with owner billing
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, meeting minutes, and closeout records
  • Support marketing, sales, and corporate promotion efforts

Qualifications

  • Four-year college degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field required
  • Two or more years of experience in the commercial contracting industry required
  • Background knowledge in construction, engineering, or mathematics
  • Working knowledge of MS Project and Excel; experience with construction management software such as Procore or Bluebeam is a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong critical thinking, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Integrity, with a strong commitment to making the morally and ethically correct decision
