Data Product Manager
Reports To: Chief Product Officer (dotted line today; expected to transition to a Head of Data / Chief Data Officer as that role is built out)
Department: Data / Product
Location: Remote, US-based
Type: Exempt, full-time
THE OPPORTUNITY
Harrison Gray Search is partnering with a nationally recognized, fee-only, majority employee-owned RIA to identify a Data Product Manager. The firm is consolidating a wide range of internal systems (portfolio management, financial planning, custodial, CRM, marketing, and more) into a single, firm-owned data lake built on Microsoft Fabric, feeding an internal advisor platform and an AI-driven intelligence layer on top of it. Data is flowing in from many directions, and the firm currently has a single person managing that intake, creating a significant bottleneck. This is a newly created, business-critical role reporting today to the firm's Chief Product Officer, with an expectation that the position will ultimately sit under a Head of Data / Chief Data Officer as that function is built out. It sits outside the core product/UI-UX org and works in close partnership with it.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Data Product Manager owns the intake, quality, and governance of data as it moves through the firm's data lake, and manages prioritization of the resulting data products and dependencies. This person understands both the technical shape of the data and the business cases behind it, and is able to validate incoming data, establish governance standards, and drive decisions about what gets built and in what order, and why. This is not a UI/UX-facing product role; it is focused on the data layer itself, its quality, its governance, and its prioritization.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own data validation and governance for systems being ingested into the firm's Microsoft Fabric data lake, ensuring the business understands the quality and shape of raw data coming in
- Understand the business context and use cases behind each data source well enough to make informed calls about handling, prioritization, and downstream use
- Manage prioritization of data-pipeline and data-product work: what gets built first, in what sequence, and why
- Serve as the connective layer between many disparate source systems and the data lake's downstream outputs and dependencies
- Partner closely with the product team (advisor platform, analytics, and AI intelligence pods) on their data needs, without owning UI/UX or advisor-facing product decisions directly
- Work toward an eventual reporting line into a Head of Data / Chief Data Officer as that function is established, while operating today under the CPO
- Bring order and process to a function that currently has a single-person bottleneck, establishing scalable practices for data validation and governance
QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience as a data product manager, data governance lead, business/data analyst, or similar role owning data quality and prioritization, ideally with some reporting or analytics background
- Comfort working with modern data lake/data platform environments; Microsoft Fabric experience a plus
- Ability to bridge technical data concepts and business context, translating both directions
- Experience establishing or improving data governance and validation practices for data flowing from many source systems
- Strong prioritization and stakeholder-management skills; comfortable operating in an ambiguous, early-stage environment with a single stakeholder team today
- Financial services, wealth management, or RIA experience is a plus but not required for this role (unlike the firm's Senior Product Manager searches, where it is a must-have)
WHY THIS OPPORTUNITY
- Newly created, high-visibility role addressing a clear and urgent bottleneck at a nationally recognized, fee-only, majority employee-owned RIA
- Direct exposure to the firm's Chief Product Officer today, with a path to a soon-to-be-built data leadership structure
- Ground-floor role shaping data governance practices for a firm-wide advisor platform and AI intelligence initiative
