Harrison Gray Search has partnered with a fast-growing wealth advisory firm to find their next Tax & Consulting Manager in Illinois.
The Tax & Consulting Manager is responsible for managing the tax preparation process and providing guidance and development to a team that includes Staff and Senior Accountants, Supervisors, and Associates. You’ll work collaboratively with wealth advisors and strategy specialists to deliver a comprehensive client experience that integrates tax planning into broader financial and business goals.
Core Responsibilities
Tax Leadership
- Oversee the tax preparation workflow across individual, fiduciary, partnership, and corporate returns.
- Guide the team through technical reviews, coaching, and ongoing development initiatives.
- Stay current on regulatory and industry changes to ensure consistent and compliant implementation.
- Lead or participate in internal committees focused on tax practice operations and staff development.
- Conduct advanced tax research and present findings to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Contribute to tax planning and business development efforts alongside firm leadership.
Business & Consulting Services
- Review and analyze business financials to inform planning strategies and consulting solutions.
- Support senior consultants in developing and delivering tailored advice to business owners and high-net-worth individuals.
Financial Planning Integration
- Review key client documents such as tax returns, estate plans, and financial statements to ensure cohesive, cross-disciplinary planning.
- Deliver and review planning analyses including Social Security, stock option planning, Roth conversions, and pension scenarios.
Team Development & Supervision
- Lead hiring, coaching, and performance evaluations for the tax and consulting team.
- Align team goals and individual KPIs with broader organizational strategies.
- Provide clear communication, regular feedback, and career development opportunities.
- Mentor subordinate supervisors and help them build effective leadership practices.
Logistics & Work Environment
- Hybrid role which may be based in the St. Charles or Lincolnshire office.
- Additional paid time off is provided following tax season to recognize team contributions and support well-being.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field required.
- Active CPA or EA license.
- 5–10 years of progressive experience in a tax department or CPA firm.
- Proven leadership experience in a team-based environment.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, client-focused mindset.

Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive base salary ranging from $114k-$152k, with additional incentive opportunities.
