JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Tax Strategy Advisor
REPORTS TO: Director of Tax Strategy
LOCATION: Fully remote, US-based
COMPENSATION: $99,000 to $148,000 base, plus annual bonus opportunity
TYPE: Exempt, full-time
Harrison Gray Search is partnering with one of the country's larger fee-only, majority employee-owned RIAs to identify a Tax Strategy Advisor. If you have spent six or more years doing proactive tax planning and return work for high-net-worth clients and you are ready to join a firm where tax is embedded in the client experience rather than bolted on afterward, this is worth a conversation.
What Makes This Different
Our client runs a fully integrated wealth model. Tax strategy sits alongside financial planning, investment management, and estate planning, and your work shapes client decisions in real time rather than landing in a filing cabinet after the fact. You will be at the table with lead advisors, co-advisors, and planning specialists, and your recommendations will be acted on by the people who actually sit across from the client.
The client roster is the other reason to look. You will manage client relationships, prepare and review complex returns, and advise on proactive planning strategies for households that typically sit in the five to ten million dollar AUM range, which means genuinely sophisticated multi-entity work rather than straightforward 1040 preparation.
The Work
You will develop and implement proactive tax planning strategies for high-net-worth clients and business owners, aligning your recommendations with each client's broader financial picture. You will review tax plans and estimates, research complex tax transactions, and translate your findings into recommendations that clients can act on and advisors can implement.
You will prepare complex individual, trust, partnership, foundation, and corporate returns for some of the firm's largest and most complex clients, and you will review less complex returns as needed. You will deliver finalized return packages, analyze IRS and state notices, and work directly with taxing authorities to resolve client issues.
You will manage your assigned client relationships, tax projects, and workflow through tax season, and you will provide subject-matter tax expertise to clients, advisors, and firm leadership. Outside of tax season, you will contribute to the firm's educational and promotional work through presentations, articles, and workshops, and you will help present tax concepts to advisors, clients, prospects, and centers of influence at firm events.
You will also serve as a mentor and role model for the tax and planning team, helping to train and develop staff, offer feedback on training programs, and step in for colleagues when the work calls for it.
Who You Are
You are a mid-career tax professional with real experience serving high-net-worth clients, and you are comfortable sitting across from a wealthy family or business owner and explaining a nuanced recommendation in language they will actually act on. You are as comfortable preparing a complex return as you are coordinating with a client's outside tax counsel on a planning question that touches multiple entities.
You are looking for a role where your work drives real client outcomes rather than one where returns get thrown over the wall to an advisor who may or may not read them. You are open to expanding your credentials, and you understand that in an integrated wealth environment, tax is one leg of a broader strategy.
What We Are Looking For
You should be a strong communicator, a careful analytical thinker, and someone who genuinely enjoys helping clients see the strategy behind the numbers.
