Director, Family Office Management Team

Represented by Harrison Gray Search

About the Firm

Harrison Gray Search has partnered with a fast-growing, highly respected family office and investment advisory firm based in Boston. Established in 2006, our client advises a select, global group of ultra-high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and institutions, overseeing more than $7.5 billion in assets.

The firm is renowned for delivering highly bespoke investment, financial, and planning solutions tailored to the most sophisticated and complex client situations.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and driven Director to join the Family Office Management Team (FOMT). In this pivotal role, you will assist in managing complex client relationships, acting as the critical link between the firm's Service, Investment Research, and Advisory teams to deliver a truly multidisciplinary wealth solution.

The FOMT is a highly visible, client-facing support function that facilitates the day-to-day needs of our client's families. You will serve as the operational and strategic anchor for these individuals, managing everything from tax, estate, and portfolio administration to the nuanced lifestyle management needs of the exceptionally wealthy. Your daily workflow will be dynamic, driven by requests from Managing Partners and Team Leaders, as well as essential service and transaction queues.

This is a phenomenal opportunity for a wealth management professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, delivers outstanding white-glove service, and possesses an acute attention to detail.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Strategic Client Counsel: Offer expert consultation on strategic asset allocation, portfolio structure design, and performance monitoring. Provide comprehensive guidance to clients regarding their investment and holistic portfolio needs.
  • Comprehensive Planning: Apply a deep understanding of the fundamentals of financial, tax, retirement, and estate planning to complex client scenarios.
  • Portfolio & Cash Management: Spearhead, recommend, and coordinate portfolio rebalancing strategies, working with internal teams to effectuate investment decisions. Actively factor and manage cash inflows (such as strategy redemptions) and outflows (including capital calls, liquidity needs, and charitable giving).
  • Client Onboarding & Implementation: Assist with new client onboarding, coordinate asset management and trust/custody relationships, and construct reporting infrastructure. Draft Investment Policy Statements and implementation memoranda.
  • Operational Oversight: Oversee client servicing activities for a delegated group of clients, including tax analysis, portfolio trading, and presentation construction. Manage annual and ad-hoc periodic client tax reporting efforts. Prepare diligently for client meetings, presentations, and conference calls.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Proactively troubleshoot portfolio implementation, trading, and reporting issues alongside FOMT members and Portfolio Analysts. Work closely with analysts to oversee the firm's cost basis efforts. Develop thoughtful strategies that continually enhance overall client service delivery.

What You Bring to the Table

  • Experience: 10+ years of robust experience in wealth management, estate planning, and/or tax planning.
  • Education & Credentials: A bachelor's degree and a passing score on the Series 65 (or equivalent certification) are required at a minimum. Advanced degrees and/or certifications (such as CFP, MBA, CFA, CPA, JD, or LLM) are strongly preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: Highly tech-savvy with the ability to navigate industry software programs, CRM tools, and Excel. An understanding of general performance reporting and platforms like Addepar is highly valuable.
  • Work Ethic & Mindset: You possess the ability to multi-task, manage projects within strict deadlines, and work independently. You are ready to "roll up your sleeves" and delve into projects personally with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Communication: Solid organizational and communication skills are essential, as this position involves extensive writing, including drafting client-ready emails, internal management memoranda, and follow-up reports under strict deadlines.
  • Flexibility & Teamwork: A strong commitment to teamwork and a passion for family office client service. Occasionally, a nontraditional work week (inclusive of night and weekend work) will be necessary to meet tight deadlines.
