The Opportunity

As a Senior Sales Underwriter – Inland Marine, you will be responsible for growing and managing a profitable book of business within your assigned territory. This is a production-focused role combining technical underwriting expertise with strong sales, relationship management, and distribution skills. You will support both new and renewal business while delivering a high level of customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

Underwriting, Coverage & Pricing

  • Evaluate complex inland marine risks using historical data, financial analysis, and industry trends
  • Develop comprehensive risk management solutions, balancing coverage, limits, and pricing
  • Structure complex policies using endorsements and specialized coverage options
  • Apply loss prevention strategies in collaboration with risk engineering partners

Underwriting & Compliance

  • Ensure underwriting decisions meet regulatory and compliance standards
  • Maintain detailed, organized documentation outlining underwriting decisions
  • Engage internal and external stakeholders to deliver outcomes aligned with company standards
  • Operate with a continuous improvement mindset, identifying efficiencies where possible

Sales & Distribution Management

  • Drive written premium growth through new business development and renewals
  • Build and maintain strong, consultative relationships with retail agency partners
  • Conduct effective agency review meetings to support mutual growth objectives
  • Support prospecting, cross-selling, negotiations, competitive analysis, and market positioning


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent job-related experience
  • 5+ years of insurance underwriting experience
  • 3+ years of monoline inland marine underwriting experience
  • Proven success in production underwriting
  • Strong relationship management and sales acumen
  • Ability to work independently in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Strong collaboration, customer focus, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • Valid driver’s license


This role is fully remote, but candidates must be based in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, or Mississippi.
