 Management Liability Underwriter


 Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Management Liability Underwriter to join our professional lines team. In this role, you will evaluate, analyze, and underwrite complex management liability risks across various industry sectors. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical knowledge of Directors & Officers (D&O), Employment Practices Liability (EPL), Fiduciary Liability, and related coverages, along with excellent relationship-building abilities to work effectively with brokers and internal stakeholders.


 Key Responsibilities


 Risk Assessment & Underwriting

* Evaluate and analyze complex management liability submissions to determine risk acceptability, appropriate coverage, and pricing

* Review and interpret financial statements, SEC filings, corporate governance documents, and other relevant information

* Assess management teams, board structures, and corporate governance frameworks

* Analyze litigation history, regulatory issues, and claim trends to evaluate exposure

* Determine appropriate limits, retentions, premium, and coverage terms based on risk analysis

* Make independent underwriting decisions that balance growth with profitability

* Draft and negotiate policy language, endorsements, and exclusions

* Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and authority levels


 Business Development

* Build and maintain productive relationships with brokers and agents

* Conduct broker meetings and presentations to promote product offerings

* Respond promptly to submission requests with well-reasoned quotes or declinations

* Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers to secure desirable business

* Identify cross-selling opportunities across professional lines products

* Participate in industry events and networking functions

* Collaborate with marketing teams to develop targeted business development strategies


 Portfolio Management

* Monitor and analyze book performance including premium growth, loss ratio, and retention

* Identify trends and implement strategies to improve portfolio results

* Manage renewal book to maintain profitable accounts and relationships

* Implement corrective actions for underperforming segments

* Contribute to the development of underwriting guidelines and rating methodologies

* Support product development initiatives based on market needs and trends


 Technical Expertise

* Maintain current knowledge of management liability exposures, coverage innovations, and legal/regulatory developments

* Stay informed about industry-specific risks and emerging exposures

* Understand market conditions and competitive landscape

* Provide technical guidance to brokers on coverage options and risk mitigation strategies

* Contribute to training and development of junior underwriters

* Collaborate with claims team on coverage interpretations and claim resolutions


 Qualifications


 Education & Experience

* Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, or related field

* 3+ years of management liability underwriting experience

* Strong understanding of D&O, EPL, Fiduciary, and other management liability coverages

* Experience working with brokers and agents in the professional lines space

* Knowledge of various industry sectors and their unique management liability exposures


 Technical Knowledge

* Proficiency in financial statement analysis

* Understanding of corporate governance principles and best practices

* Knowledge of securities laws and regulations

* Familiarity with employment laws and EPL exposures

* Ability to interpret policy language and coverage implications

* Understanding of claims-made coverage triggers and prior acts provisions

 Preferred Qualifications

* Advanced degree (MBA, JD) or professional designations (CPCU, ARM, RPLU)

* Experience with public company D&O, private/non-profit D&O, and financial institutions

* Knowledge of cyber liability and professional E&O coverages

* Experience with underwriting systems and analytics tools

* Background in law, finance, or accounting
