Primary Care Physician Assistant
Patients do not experience “coverage.” They experience whether someone listens, decides, and follows through. This role exists to own a panel’s day-to-day medical care—diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and continuity—so people leave clearer, safer, and more likely to stay well. You will practice at the top of your license, with physicians who expect independent judgment and a team that measures success by outcomes, not visit volume alone.
Performance Objectives
- Manage a defined primary care panel so chronic conditions (diabetes, hypertension, COPD, heart disease) show measurable improvement in control and adherence within the first year.
- Evaluate acute and undifferentiated complaints same day when clinically appropriate, closing the visit with a clear diagnosis or plan, patient understanding, and timely follow-up.
- Prevent avoidable escalation by completing evidence-based screening, immunizations, and risk counseling, and by coordinating specialty, behavioral health, and community resources before crises occur.
- Document encounters the same day so coding, quality measures, and the next clinician can act without reconstruction.
- Reduce no-show and medication-gap risk through proactive outreach on high-risk patients you own.
- Teach patients and staff in plain language so care plans are followed between visits, not just agreed to in the room.
Environment & Resources
You will practice in a physician-led primary care setting with on-site or readily available collaboration, medical assistants, nursing, and front-office support. EHR, e-prescribing, and quality dashboards are in place. Schedule design protects same-day access and panel management time. You report clinically to the supervising physician and operationally to the practice leadership responsible for access and quality.
Essential Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited PA program and current NCCPA certification, with an active state license (or eligibility) and DEA as required for the practice.
- At least two years of primary care, family medicine, internal medicine, or urgent-care experience managing both chronic disease and acute illness independently.
- Demonstrated comfort with full-scope outpatient procedures common to primary care and with knowing when not to proceed.
- Clear, respectful communication with patients of varied health literacy, language, and cultural background.
- Fluency in the EHR and in quality reporting; documentation that supports care and compliant coding.
Why This Role
- Real panel ownership, not perpetual float coverage.
- Collaboration that respects PA judgment rather than bottlenecking routine decisions.
- A schedule built for access and follow-through, not only throughput.
- Visible impact on control rates, preventive care, and patient trust.
- A path to deepen primary care expertise with physicians who teach.
