Vascular Surgeon
Patients with threatened limbs, complex aortic disease, and failing dialysis access need a surgeon who chooses the right operation and owns the result. This role expands timely vascular care, raises limb-salvage and aneurysm outcomes, and makes the service a dependable partner to cardiology, nephrology, wound care, and the emergency department. Success is measured in safer procedures, faster decisions, and fewer patients who lose function because care arrived too late.
Performance Objectives
- Build a full-spectrum practice of open and endovascular cases with complication, readmission, and mortality rates at or better than society benchmarks.
- Evaluate critical limb ischemia within 24 hours of referral and complete revascularization on a protocol-driven timeline that improves limb salvage.
- Lead treatment decisions for aortic, carotid, venous, and dialysis-access disease so the procedure matches anatomy, risk, and the patient’s goals.
- Cover call with timely operative response and clear handoffs that keep emergency cases moving without avoidable delay.
- Shorten length of stay and cut unplanned returns to the operating room through standardized pathways for wounds, surveillance, and amputation prevention.
- Submit complete quality data, review complications openly, and close the gaps identified in peer review.
- Coach advanced practice providers and referring clinicians so volume can grow without lowering case quality.
Environment & Resources
You will join a collaborative surgical service with a hybrid operating room, endovascular inventory, an accredited vascular lab, and dedicated anesthesia and nursing teams. Clinic time, operating block, and call are structured so elective and urgent work can both be done well. You report to the chief of surgery or service medical director and work daily with interventional colleagues, hospitalists, and care coordination. Scheduling, authorization, and registry support keep clinical time clinical.
Essential Qualifications
- MD or DO and completion of an accredited vascular surgery residency or fellowship.
- Board certification or active eligibility in vascular surgery, plus eligibility for unrestricted state licensure.
- Independent experience in open reconstruction and endovascular intervention, including aortic, peripheral, carotid, and dialysis-access procedures.
- Recent hospital privileges and a case log that supports the outcomes above.
- Documented ownership of quality through registry work, improvement projects, or formal case review.
- Clear communication of risk and options, and the ability to coordinate care across referring specialties.
Role Selling Points
- Both open surgery and endovascular skill are required, supported, and used.
- Hybrid-room and vascular-lab access reduce unnecessary transfers between diagnosis and treatment.
- Limb salvage and emergency coverage are designed into the service, and you can shape the pathways.
- Staff support protects time for clinic, documentation, and quality work.
- The practice values long-term fit, clinical judgment, and results patients can feel.
