Sleep Medicine Physician

Patients lose years of health to untreated sleep disease—and most never reach a specialist who can change that. This role exists to close that gap: diagnose accurately, treat decisively, and restore daytime function for people whose nights have stopped working. You will own clinical outcomes, not just clinic volume, and set the standard for how sleep care is delivered.

Performance Objectives

  • Evaluate new and complex patients and deliver a working diagnosis and treatment plan at the first visit for the large majority of cases.
  • Interpret in-lab polysomnography, home sleep apnea testing, and multiple sleep latency testing so results drive timely, specific therapy—not delayed follow-up.
  • Raise successful positive airway pressure initiation and adherence by pairing device therapy with behavioral coaching, mask troubleshooting, and clear escalation when PAP fails.
  • Manage insomnia, hypersomnia, circadian disorders, and sleep-related movement disorders with evidence-based behavioral and pharmacologic plans, and document measurable improvement in sleep and daytime function.
  • Coordinate care with pulmonary, neurology, ENT, cardiology, and dental sleep partners so surgical, oral-appliance, and medical options are offered without gaps or duplicate testing.
  • Meet accreditation, safety, and quality standards for the sleep laboratory and clinic, including report turnaround and complication review.
  • Build referral confidence so primary care and specialty partners send appropriate patients and receive useful, timely consults.

Environment & Resources

You will practice in a multidisciplinary sleep program with an accredited laboratory, scoring and respiratory therapy support, and established referral pathways. Diagnostic equipment, PAP and oral-appliance workflows, and electronic records are in place. You report to the medical director, with advanced-practice and nursing support for follow-up, and protected time for study interpretation.

Essential Qualifications

  • MD or DO with board certification or eligibility in sleep medicine and an active state medical license.
  • Demonstrated skill interpreting PSG, HSAT, and MSLT and converting findings into treatment patients can start immediately.
  • Hands-on success initiating and troubleshooting PAP therapy, including complex or nonadherent cases.
  • Comfort managing insomnia and hypersomnia without defaulting every problem to a device.
  • DEA registration and willingness to practice within current sleep-medicine guidelines and laboratory accreditation standards.

Role Selling Points

  • Outcomes you can see: better sleep, safer days, and fewer untreated apnea and insomnia cases.
  • A real lab and team behind you—not a solo clinic asked to do specialty work without infrastructure.
  • Clinical authority over diagnosis and treatment plans, with collaboration rather than bureaucracy.
  • A schedule built for interpretation and patient care, not endless administrative catch-up.
  • A partnership model that treats physicians as long-term colleagues, not interchangeable shifts.
