Gynecologic Oncologist

Women facing gynecologic cancer need a physician who can diagnose with precision, operate with judgment, and stay with them through treatment and survivorship. This role exists to raise cure rates, reduce avoidable complications, and make complex care feel coordinated rather than fragmented. You will own outcomes for patients with ovarian, uterine, cervical, vulvar, and related cancers—and set the standard for how that care is delivered.

Performance Objectives

  • Diagnose and stage gynecologic cancers accurately so treatment plans start on time and match disease biology.
  • Perform complex open, minimally invasive, and robotic pelvic and abdominal surgery with low rates of unplanned return to the OR and surgical-site complications.
  • Direct systemic therapy—including chemotherapy, targeted agents, and immunotherapy—so patients complete intended regimens and toxicities are managed early.
  • Lead multidisciplinary case review and convert tumor-board decisions into clear, documented plans patients and referring clinicians can follow.
  • Build reliable referral relationships that shorten time from suspicion to first treatment.
  • Improve survivorship: surveillance, late effects, fertility and sexual-health counseling, and timely palliative transition when cure is no longer the goal.
  • Contribute to quality and, where offered, clinical research so practice patterns stay current with evidence.

Environment & Resources

You will practice within a multidisciplinary cancer team—gynecologic oncology colleagues, medical and radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, anesthesia, nursing, navigation, and advanced practice providers. Operating rooms, infusion, imaging, and tumor board are part of the care pathway. You partner with referring obstetrician-gynecologists and primary clinicians and align with the cancer service line on quality, access, and case mix. Support staff handle scheduling, authorizations, and care coordination so your time stays on clinical decisions.

Essential Qualifications

  • MD or DO, completion of obstetrics and gynecology residency, and an ACGME-accredited gynecologic oncology fellowship.
  • Board certification or active board eligibility in gynecologic oncology, with unrestricted state licensure and DEA eligibility.
  • Demonstrated independent performance of complex gynecologic cancer surgery, including minimally invasive approaches.
  • Competence directing chemotherapy and contemporary systemic therapy, including toxicity management.
  • Evidence of multidisciplinary collaboration, timely communication with referring physicians, and sound clinical judgment under uncertainty.
  • Commitment to quality measurement, documentation standards, and patient-centered consent.

Why This Role

  • Full-scope practice: surgery, systemic therapy, and longitudinal care—not a single slice of the pathway.
  • Direct influence on access, surgical quality, and how women experience a cancer diagnosis.
  • A team built to support high-acuity cases rather than isolate the surgeon.
  • Room to shape referral pathways, protocols, and survivorship standards.
  • Work measured by patient outcomes, not activity volume alone.
