Director, Application Software
Target Compensation: 130-140K base plus bonus
Hybrid work environment. 3 to 4 days in office, 1 or 2 WFH
About the Role
We’re looking for a Director of Application Software to lead a small but talented IT team. This is
not a strategy-heavy or new product development role. The main focus is on production
applications — keeping them stable, getting enhancements out, and making sure releases go out on time.
The right person is a hands-on technical leader who understands complex systems, can hold the
team accountable to dates, and keeps projects moving along a 3–6 month cycle (sometimes
shorter). This is about execution, stability, and timely delivery more than long-term roadmaps.
Some long-term road mapping is essential but not the primary focus of the role.
Responsibilities
Lead and mentor a 6-8 IT/software team.
Own production applications, software enhancements, stability, and support.
Deliver enhancements and releases on time, keeping the team accountable without being overbearing.
Work closely with owner to prioritize what matters most and deliver quickly to end clients.
Roll up your sleeves when needed to dive into technical challenges.
Provide some input on longer-term improvements, but keep the main focus on short-term execution and delivery.
Required Skills
Strong Java programming skills, with experience in multithreaded applications.
Experience with React or other front end scripting languages / tools.
Ability to dive deep into complex systems and quickly understand how they work.
Solid background in API and backend development.
Preferred Skills
Cloud deployment with AWS and S3.
Microservices background.
Docker and Kubernetes.
On-prem server management with Docker.
Frontend experience with React and Next.js.
System design experience.
Exposure to AI/ML a plus.
The Type of Person Who Will Succeed
This role is best suited for someone who thrives in a smaller team environment, is comfortable
being hands-on, and has a track record of getting things done. The focus here is on
accountability, short project cycles, and production stability. The ideal candidate balances
urgency with quality, communicates well, and can keep the team on track without being heavy-handed.
