Pain Medicine Physician
Patients living with complex pain need a physician who changes function, not just symptoms. This role exists to deliver precise diagnoses and durable, evidence-based plans that restore mobility, limit avoidable medication and procedures, and give referring clinicians a trusted partner. Success looks like safer care, clearer decisions, and patients returning to the lives they want.
Performance Objectives
- Complete comprehensive evaluations and deliver a written multimodal plan within the first visit cycle.
- Perform indicated image-guided procedures with complication rates at or below peer benchmarks and fully documented consent.
- Shift appropriate patients off high-risk opioids using non-opioid, interventional, and behavioral strategies, with taper plans followed through.
- Close the loop with primary care, spine, physical therapy, and behavioral health so every referral has shared goals and a next step.
- Hold access standards: offer new-patient visits within the practice target and use procedure time so care is not delayed.
- Document encounters, procedures, and controlled-substance monitoring to regulatory and payer standards with minimal rework.
- Contribute to peer review and protocol updates that improve safety, consistency, and equitable access.
Environment & Resources
You will practice in a multidisciplinary pain setting with fluoroscopy and ultrasound, nursing and medical-assistant support, and an electronic record. You report clinically to the medical director. Scheduling, prior authorization, and revenue-cycle support protect your time for patients. Clinic templates, procedure blocks, and coverage expectations are set with you before you start.
Essential Qualifications
- MD or DO with an ACGME pain medicine fellowship and board certification or eligibility in pain medicine.
- License and DEA registration eligible for the practice state, with unrestricted controlled-substance privileges.
- Demonstrated skill in fluoroscopic and ultrasound-guided spine and peripheral procedures used in this panel.
- A record of opioid-sparing, multimodal care and clear communication with referring physicians.
- Comfort with quality review and complete, timely documentation.
Role Selling Points
- A practice judged on function and safety, not volume for its own sake.
- Protected procedure time and a team that handles authorizations and room turnover.
- A real voice in protocols, not a rigid script.
- A referral culture that respects your clinical judgment.
- Schedule, call, and compensation discussed openly before you commit.
