Hematology Oncology Physician Assistant

Patients facing cancer and serious blood disorders need a clinician who can turn a complex picture into a clear plan the same day. In this role you own visits, treatment checks, and follow-through across clinic and infusion so care does not stall between appointments. Your judgment keeps therapy on track, toxicities contained, and patients and families clear on what happens next. Success is timely, safe decisions—not a longer task list.

Performance Objectives

  • Complete new and return hematology-oncology visits and leave an assessment and plan the attending can act on that day.
  • Manage assigned infusion and oral-therapy patients, including toxicity review, dose holds, and escalation, so treatment stays on schedule and within protocol.
  • Close labs, imaging, and pathology before the next decision point, cutting delayed starts and avoidable admissions.
  • Lead goals-of-care and supportive-care conversations and document one shared plan the team can follow.
  • Clear authorizations and handoffs with pharmacy, nursing, navigators, and referring clinicians within service standards.
  • Cover scheduled urgent add-ons or inpatient consults, stabilize acute complications, and arrange follow-up before the patient leaves.
  • Watch time to treatment, graded toxicity, and recovered no-shows, and change your workflow when those measures slip.

Environment & Resources

You practice with hematologists, oncologists, infusion nurses, pharmacists, and navigators. Panel size, clinic templates, and coverage expectations are set with the service. You use the practice EMR, oncology pathways, and order sets already in place, and you report to the lead physician or APP leader for the service.

Essential Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited PA program with current NCCPA certification.
  • Active state PA license and DEA registration, or ability to obtain both before start.
  • At least two years as a PA in hematology, oncology, or a closely related acute specialty.
  • Proven management of chemotherapy toxicity, cytopenias, anticoagulation, and oncologic emergencies.
  • Clear EMR documentation and concise case presentation to attending physicians.
  • Skill holding difficult conversations with accuracy and respect.

Role Selling Points

  • Ownership of visits and treatment decisions, not a narrow order-entry list.
  • Continuity from consult through infusion, so you see the result of your plans.
  • Daily work with specialists who expect APP judgment.
  • A focused heme/onc practice, not general-medicine overflow.
  • Defined coverage so urgent work does not erase the rest of the panel.

Apply

If you want your clinical judgment to change the course of cancer care, apply with a CV that shows the panels you have managed and the outcomes you own.
