Dermatology Physician Assistant

Patients do not come in for a diagnosis alone. They come for clearer skin, calmer symptoms, and a plan they can follow. In this role, you own that outcome from the first visit through follow-up: accurate assessment, decisive treatment, and care that holds up between appointments. Your work expands access to high-quality dermatology without lowering the standard of the visit.

Performance Objectives

  • Evaluate and manage a full clinic panel of medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology patients, closing each visit with a documented plan the patient can execute.
  • Diagnose and treat common and complex skin, hair, and nail conditions, escalating atypical or high-risk findings to the supervising physician the same day.
  • Perform in-scope procedures—biopsies, excisions, cryotherapy, and related minor surgery—with complication rates and specimen quality that meet clinic standards.
  • Raise appropriate-visit capture and reduce avoidable return visits by setting clear treatment timelines, medication counseling, and follow-up criteria.
  • Keep charts, coding, and procedure notes complete and defensible the day of service so revenue and compliance do not lag care.
  • Coach medical assistants and front-office staff on prep, consent, and aftercare so room turnover and patient instructions stay consistent.
  • Contribute to protocol updates for acne, psoriasis, eczema, skin-cancer surveillance, and biologic monitoring based on outcomes you see in clinic.

Environment & Resources

  • Practice inside a physician-led dermatology team with defined supervision, same-day physician backup, and shared decision-making on complex cases.
  • Clinic support includes medical assistants, a dedicated procedure setup, EHR templates, and pathology coordination.
  • Schedule is built for continuity, not volume alone: protected chart time and a procedure block sized to the panel.
  • You report to the supervising dermatologist, with practice leadership owning staffing, supplies, and quality metrics.

Essential Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited PA program with current NCCPA certification and an active state license, or eligibility before start.
  • Dermatology experience, or a strong primary-care/surgical foundation plus a documented plan to reach independent clinic productivity within the agreed ramp.
  • Demonstrated skill in skin exams, dermoscopy basics, biopsy technique, and suture closure appropriate to site and diagnosis.
  • Comfort managing chronic inflammatory disease, skin-cancer pathways, and patient education on topicals, systemics, and photoprotection.
  • Clean, timely documentation and accurate procedure coding without rework.
  • DEA registration, or ability to obtain it, if prescribing controlled medications is in scope for the practice.

Role Selling Points

  • Real clinical ownership: you are hired for outcomes, not to shadow indefinitely.
  • A mix of medical dermatology and procedures, so the week is not one note type repeated.
  • Physician partnership that is close enough for hard cases and clear enough that your judgment counts.
  • A practice that measures success by healed patients, clean pathology, and schedules patients can actually get.

If you want a dermatology role where your visits change the chart and the patient’s skin, apply with a short note on the procedures you perform independently and the conditions you manage most often.
