Head of Electronics – Powertrain & Power Electronics Systems

Location: Norfolk area (on-site)

Overview

ARCA is partnering with a confidential client in the electric vehicle and clean technology sector to recruit a Head of Electronics to lead the design and development of advanced power electronics hardware across a range of next-generation propulsion and energy systems.

This is a senior, hands-on leadership role offering the opportunity to shape the direction of electronics development and drive innovation across a fast-growing engineering function. The successful candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strategic vision and mentoring capability.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and strategic leadership for all electronics development activities
  • Oversee the design of power electronics systems, including inverters, converters, and control hardware for electric powertrains
  • Define electronics architecture, standards, and development processes to ensure product robustness and scalability
  • Guide and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers, fostering technical excellence and knowledge sharing
  • Drive hardware validation and verification to meet EMC, thermal, and functional safety requirements
  • Collaborate with firmware, systems, and mechanical teams to deliver integrated, production-ready solutions
  • Contribute to technology roadmapping and the introduction of new electronic systems and processes

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proven background in power electronics hardware design, ideally for electric propulsion or energy systems
  • Expertise in analogue and digital circuit design, PCB layout, and high-voltage architectures
  • Strong understanding of EMC design, thermal management, and reliability engineering
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams or projects within an R&D or manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on experience with hardware validation, debugging, and lab-based testing
  • Familiarity with functional safety or automotive standards such as ISO 26262 or IATF 16949
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or eligibility for registration, is highly desirable
