Title: Tax Manager | Independent Partner-Owned CPA Firm | True Work-Life Balance

Remote Location: 100% Remote (Must be located in the US & authorized)

Compensation: Up to $175k base + 10–15% discretionary bonus + future equity opportunity

Requirements: 5–10+ years tax experience, CPA Required

We are a nationally recognized, partner-owned CPA and advisory firm with roots going back more than five decades—serving privately held businesses, entrepreneurs, high-net-worth individuals, and not-for-profit organizations across the country. We are hiring a Tax Manager to join a growing tax practice in a fully remote capacity, with an eye toward someone who wants to build something lasting—not just a job.

This is not a revolving door. With a median employee tenure approaching 8 years and a culture that has been built deliberately over generations, this is a firm where careers are made—not just started.

And if you've been watching firms around you get swallowed up by private equity or absorbed into a national platform—this is the alternative. This firm is independently owned, has zero interest in PE investment or acquisition, and intends to stay that way. That means the close-knit culture, the quality-first client relationships, and the autonomy you value aren't going anywhere.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • 100% Remote — Work from anywhere in the US, in your own time zone, on a schedule that works for you. You are not the only remote employee—roughly 40% of the team operates fully remotely
  • Compensation up to $175k base + 10–15% discretionary bonus — and that's before you factor in profit sharing and a clear path to future equity in the firm
  • Busy Season That Actually Ends — Max hours during busy season cap at 55 hours per week, and the crunch is limited to just a few weeks surrounding the deadline. When it's over, it's over
  • Succession Planning Opportunity — A few of the Senior Partners are planning to retire in the near term, creating genuine advancement opportunities for the right person. The path from Manager → Senior Manager → Partner is real, visible, and actively being planned for
  • Future Equity in the Firm— This isn't just about a bonus. The firm believes in building ownership for the people who build the firm

Benefits That Are Actually Generous:

  • Medical coverage 100% employer-paid — for you AND all dependents
  • 401(k) with 5% employer match
  • Firm-wide profit-sharing program
  • Full reimbursement for certifications, continuing education, and professional development
  • Annual firm-wide trip to a top destination — not just for top performers, but for the entire firm (recent trips have included destinations like Turks & Caicos)
  • All-expenses-paid post-season gatherings — the firm brings everyone together, including remote employees, to celebrate and decompress as a team
  • Ranked among the top 100 accounting and advisory firms in the US — and ranked Leaders in Tax list among firms under $100M (Accounting Today, 2024)
  • 18%+ growth over the last two years — this firm is expanding, and the timing for joining at the Manager level couldn't be better

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and manage tax compliance and planning for a portfolio of closely held businesses, entrepreneurs, and high-net-worth individuals
  • Lead client relationships with a quality-first, relationship-driven approach — this is not a churn-and-bill environment
  • Mentor and develop junior staff; participate in training and team development
  • Identify tax planning opportunities and proactively advise clients on evolving tax law
  • Collaborate with partners and senior leadership on firm growth initiatives and client strategy

Qualifications

  • Active CPA License
  • 5–10+ years of public accounting experience, with meaningful tax review and management experience
  • Strong foundation in pass-through entities, closely held businesses, and/or HNW individual taxation
  • Excellent client communication and relationship management skills
  • Self-directed and comfortable working autonomously in a remote environment

Timing — We Are Open to Talking Now or Right After the Deadline

This role is designed to be filled right after the April deadline, and the firm fully understands where you are right now. If you want to have an initial conversation before April 15 to learn more, we can make that work at your pace. If you'd rather wait until the dust settles — we'll be here.

Apply now, or send your resume to keith.shuler@levelociti.com for faster consideration.
