Sr Director, Security Engineering & Modern SOC

A growing MSP/MSSP platform is seeking a Sr Director / VP-level leader to oversee Security Engineering, Modern SOC Operations, and the continued evolution of its managed security services organization.

This is a true player-coach leadership role. We're looking for someone who still enjoys being in the technical trenches - someone who naturally gravitates toward security architecture, complex customer escalations, engineering discussions, and solving difficult technical problems.

This is not a purely administrative leadership position. While you'll lead engineering teams and help shape the strategic direction of the organization, you'll also remain actively engaged with the technology, mentoring engineers, participating in architecture reviews, and helping guide complex technical initiatives.

If your current role consists primarily of executive meetings, budgeting, and people management, this probably isn't the right fit.

What You'll Do

• Lead Security Engineering, Modern SOC, and Managed Security Services teams
• Serve as the executive technical leader for complex customer environments and critical escalations
• Partner closely with engineering teams on security architecture, solution design, and operational improvements
• Mentor and develop security engineers, architects, and technical leaders
• Drive the continued evolution of modern SOC capabilities through automation, orchestration, and AI-assisted workflows
• Improve operational metrics, incident response, service quality, and customer experience
• Collaborate with executive leadership on technology strategy, service offerings, and long-term platform direction
• Help shape the future of a rapidly growing security organization

What Success Looks Like

• You're comfortable joining a Sev-1 customer bridge and helping engineers work through complex technical issues.
• You still enjoy whiteboarding security architectures and discussing technical design with engineers and customers.
• Your team views you as a technical resource as much as a leader.
• You remain engaged in architecture reviews, security engineering, and major technical decisions.
• You enjoy building teams, but you never lost your passion for technology.

Ideal Background

• Experience leading Security Engineering, Modern SOC, Managed Detection & Response (MDR), or Managed Security Services within an MSP, MSSP, VAR, or technology services organization
• Built your career as a security engineer, security architect, network engineer, or security consultant before moving into leadership
• Strong hands-on background across enterprise networking, cybersecurity, cloud infrastructure, and security architecture
• Comfortable engaging directly with engineers, architects, customers, and executive leadership on complex technical initiatives
• Experience building and scaling Security Engineering or SOC organizations
• Experience implementing automation, orchestration, and AI-assisted security operations
• Strong player-coach leadership style with the ability to remain technically engaged while leading high-performing teams

• Cloud security (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Infrastructure automation and orchestration
• AI-assisted security operations

We're not looking for someone who used to be technical.

We're looking for someone who still enjoys diving into architecture reviews, partnering with engineers during critical customer escalations, solving complex technical challenges, and leading through technical credibility.
