Audit Manager – Affordable Housing / HUD


Fully Remote | EST-Based Mid-Size CPA Firm

Are you an experienced audit professional with deep expertise in Affordable Housing and HUD programs? Do you want the flexibility of a fully remote role while working with a collaborative, growth-oriented firm?

We are partnering with a growing mid-size CPA firm headquartered on the East Coast that is seeking an Audit Manager to lead and expand its Affordable Housing/HUD practice. Nearly half of the firm’s professionals work fully remote, creating a strong, well-supported virtual culture grounded in accountability, flexibility, and high performance.


About the Role

As an Audit Manager, you will lead audit and assurance engagements for clients in the Affordable Housing sector, including entities subject to HUD regulations and compliance requirements. You’ll serve as a trusted advisor to clients, manage engagement teams, and play a key role in developing staff and strengthening client relationships.

This is a fully remote position with a firm operating in the Eastern Time Zone.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee Affordable Housing and HUD audit engagements from planning through issuance
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop audit seniors and staff
  • Review financial statements and related disclosures
  • Ensure compliance with HUD audit requirements, Uniform Guidance, and other applicable regulations
  • Maintain and strengthen client relationships through proactive communication and advisory support
  • Collaborate with firm leadership to grow and enhance the Affordable Housing practice
  • Monitor engagement budgets, timelines, and profitability


Qualifications

  • CPA license required
  • 5+ years of public accounting experience, with strong exposure to Affordable Housing and HUD audits
  • Deep understanding of HUD programs, compliance requirements, and Uniform Guidance
  • Experience managing audit engagements and supervising staff
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment
  • Ability to work primarily within EST or overlap significantly with EST business hours
